I just got a solid black female cocker spaniel 2 days ago as a surprise. So now I'm trying to think of a good name b/c I hate not being able to call her something. I know you should be around them to let their personality help you decide but I was wondering if anyone has any good name suggestions relating to her color, black. Any ideas???

I had a half collie half cocker that was all black and she was given to me on a stormie day so I called her Stormie! But since yours was a surprise, why not " Surprise" or variations of that word??Or various ways of spelling that word? Or the word black , like Ebony??? Good luck!

How about Olive for the black olives. Or Cinderella and call her cinder for short or forget about the whole color thing and call her Bumpkins.

Ebony is a wonderful name and it is another name for black. Also go online and look up black in other languages and see what you can come up with, good luck.

It doesn't matter what you name your precious new dog, you will end up calling her something else. We all do. It's a universal oddity that dogs never end up being called what they were originally named.

If your dog is AKC it makes it easier. You name your dog after his parent's line, throw in a couple of your own names and then derive nicknames from the official AKC name.

Yaright. I got "Bobo" from the AKC Skeeper Gonzales Luvs Mudd and 'Puddin" from Sweet Pea Lili Rose. Go figure.
