Dogs, like people, have a wide range of personalities. Although the same is true for Min Pins, members of the breed generally share some personality traits. Min Pins, by their nature, are not generally timid, calm "lap dogs." Rather, they have an energetic spirit and curious nature. They are generally quite stubborn, but can also be very sweet. Although small, a Min Pin generally makes a good watchdog, as the breed is eager to sound the alarm when unfamiliar people and creatures appear in or around the home. It is said that Mini Pinschers tend to bark excessively, but again this is dependent on the personality of the dog and the owner. It is recommended that you socialize your Mini Pinscher before three months of age. Socialization is important with the Min Pin as with any canine to combat against aggression due to the animal's size.

I have three dogs, an Italian Greyhound, that I got when he was 3 months old, he's now 12. I adopted a min pin 6 years ago, when he was 3 years old. I just adopted a rat terrier mix 2 months ago and he's 12 or 13 years old. I adore my min pin, but the min pin is a crazy dog. My sister in law has one and a neighbor has one. The min pin is a great watch dog. Pino (my min pin) patrols the house every few hours, he has exceptional hearing. I adore Pino, I really do. The min pin is a very devoted dog, he'll always want to be with you. The min pin has no idea how small he is, he's fearless. Pino has allot of crazy antics. Would I adopt another min pin, yes. there nuts, but allot of fun. Pino, controls my other dogs, he's the leader of the pack, that's for sure. The only other min pin that Pino liked was a little female that a friend had brought over. Pino, doesn't care for my sister in law's min pin, nor my neighbors. My sister in law's min pin as well as my neighbors min pin are all bossy like Pino. They all want to be the boss, so they really don't get along. So to answere your question. Yes, they make good pets, devoted, excellent watch dog, just alittle on the crazy side.

From experience with friends Minature Pinschers: energectic, busy, piercing barkers, destructive, hard to housetrain, strong willed, overly possesive of people, toys & food. A very challenging breed.

They would be best matched with an owner that gives them lots of exercise, and is firm, fair & consistent with rules & discipline.

My best friend has one. She very cute but very yappy. She barks at everything and is very high energy for a small dog. In addition, she has had problems with her kneecaps slipping out of place which she was told by her vet is a common thing amongst this breed because of the way that they were bred to make the smaller dog.

I have a min pin and if raised right they are great companions .. They are very protective and do take a lot of care and alot of love .. they like to be close to you and by your side aways.. They are not they type to want to be left alone . I wouldn't trade mine for the world and if anything should ever happen to her. I would get another in a heart beat ..

My brother has one, and she is a doll!

I don't know if it's breed or just her personality, but she is jealous of anyone who tries to get between her and my brother. She is loyal and calm. She even is good with other pets as long they know that she is the boss.

She is a princess though.
