Our 2 year old Maltese seems to have behavioral problems.

When she wants to play she can be very aggressive. If we are walking around she will literally bite at our ankles trying to be playful. But it is more aggressive than playful from my standpoint. We don't let her play around small children.

If someone leaves the common area where we have her penned she will attack the person and bark incessantly. I think this is some sort of separation anxiety. Same thing happens when we leave the house. (Note: we don't let her in the bedrooms because of allergies).

She is very uncomfortable around strangers. She'll often wet herself out of excitement.

Lately she'll get into strange moods where she will attack you if you try to hold her (maybe a doctor did something to her?)

One big thing I'm starting to do is walk her. But we're limited in that capacity because she gets these odd asthma attacks (the doctor says her trachea contracts). Would training help or be a waste of money?

We have a dog already, but i really want to add a new addition to the house. I found the cutest little chihuahua up for adoption and i've been trying to convince my parents, but they keep saying that they don't want another dog and that one is enough. And when i ask them to elaborate they just get aggravated and then i back off because i don't want to get them mad (sure-fire way to NOT get the dog) anyway does anyone have any advice! It would be greatly appreciated!! I am a 14 year old, straight-A student! And i've asked them if it's a responsibility issue and they said no. So, all i know is that one is enough and that they don't want another one. (informative, no?)

I don't know if it's a boy or a girl, so can you suggest some boy/girl names for a small dog like a shih tzu?

My dog is very tired lately, she 10 years old [60 in dog years] and shes not active at all. A new puppy is not an option. Shes barely eating and she losing alot of weight. And yes. We have been to the vet numerous times. She is being medicated for a urinary track infection [which she also had when we first adopted her] but she seems to be very depressed. Shes not craving attention from me, if anything shes avoiding it. Is it possible she feels that i love her too much and she wants me to back off or something.

Answers from people with experience in this situation please.

I was wondering what kind of dog would you get if you could get one for a family. What dog would you chose?

My daughter is almost 13 and she has wanted to be a Vet for quite some time. She watches Animal Planet all the time. One of her favorite programs has to do with animal rescues. I believe it's The A.S.P.C.A.? I'm not sure. I seen an ad in our local paper that had free dogs. I called and it happened to be a Police Department. I asked if they would consider letting us foster 2-3 dogs for them. The Chief said no. Once the dogs were gone that's it. To make a long story short. We ended up bringing home 2 dogs on 12-29. One was too fat for the Chief to get in the back of his pick up (Chief has a hurt arm). So, he was 3 days over due. The other dogs time was up that day. We have one Dog Kennel that is fairly large. This Wednesday (1-3-07) three more dogs are due to meet their maker. We want to save them and others. We just don't have the funds to do so. If anybody knows how to go about getting financial help please let us know. We have the room and heart. Just not the income to keep going.

About a year ago a co-worker said she had found a stray boxer & was looking for someone to give him a home so she didn't have to take him to the shelter.Well, I took him in & for the most part he is a wonderful loving dog but he has an aggressive streak I am not equipped to handle. After we took him we took him to the vet and had him checked out,got his shots, had him neutered, the vet estimated his age then at about a year & a half. He's nipped at my daughter and my son's friend, my daughter he cut her lip, for the boy he did not break the skin but left a welt on his cheek.I don't think he meant to do any damage,he's a large dog & could do some serious harm if he wanted to,but I'm afraid of what he could do without really trying.I can't afford the proffessional training I think he needs. In the year we've had him those are the only 2 incidents of bites, but other behaviors like pushing & jumping are not uncommon.Needs someone with fenced yard, big heart & no small children. Located in IN.

I just picked my dog up from the groomers and she said he was very animal aggressive. He's a rat terrier. She also said he wouldn't let her take him out of his crate. He kept growling and trying to bite her. Once she got him out, he was fine and acted like her best friend. I've never seen him act that way! We have another dog at home also and they get along fine. Any ideas on how I could stop this behavior before it gets any worse.

After searching long and hard for a pressure-mounted walk through baby/pet gate, I finally purchased one I thought would work for a toy breed (Pomeranian). It's tubular steel made by Summer Corp. with up and down slats. As I was installing the gate this afternoon, the puppy walked right through the slats! The slats are 2.5 inches apart and her head and body are 2 inches wide. When my kids were little I had a hard plastic cross-hatch walk through gate that Fisher-Price made. They no longer make this gate. Does anyone have any good ideas for what I can put between the slats of this gate to keep the puppy in. Or of any manufacturer who makes a more secure walk through gate that a toy dog can't walk right through?
