On my street, my dogs are the ones that people complain about.
It's a short street and dead ends but there is foot traffic off the ditch at the end of the street. From the time one of the dogs at that end of the street sees someone enter his visual territory he starts announcing it to the other dogs on the street. So it is like a domino effect from the first sighting on the street until who ever it was is out of sight. And vice versa.
County Vet came out one time after a report and stood for about 20 or 30 minutes just talking and said that she didn't see any thing different than what she had in her own yard.
Another thing is that they are doing what dogs do.....bark.
To stop a dog from just barking for the sake of barking can be done but the owner would have to co-operate and implement some behavior modification, or a no bark collar on the dog at nights. That needs to stop. Talk to the owners. Wake them up in the middle of the night and ask them to quite their dog.
Follow some of the other advise on this site. Cops, Animal Control, throw cans with rocks inside at the fence. Pop cans work better, just put a bail on it and seal the can. Holding the bail wire sling can at the fence. Makes alot of racket. Use a whisle, everyone is awake anyway. Be consistent ! ! !
Make up a few so that you don't have to go retrieve it between corrections. This is a long distance correctional tool that works very well to change unwanted behavior.
You may have to sit outside and be quite and when he lets out a woof sling the can and yell "NO".

In most towns in America it is against the law to keep any animal that disturbs the peace. Some people are not aware that they are breaking the law and don't know what to do about the dog even if they do.
But call the animal control department and tell them your problem. They will usually mail the people a generic letter stating that there has been a complaint and explains the law to them and even suggests some methods for controlling barking.
If that doesn't work then call them again and this time they send a letter with a fine that they must pay just like a ticket.
If that doesn't work call again and YES!! A police officer will go to their door and explain it to them very clearly that there is a law and they are breaking it. While there the officer may ask for the dogs registration, rabies certificate etc. be a pain..
At this point they are risking having the dog removed from their home by the authorities.
It may take all of this to get them to wake up to the fact that they must keep the dog quiet.
Barking collars work really well. Unlike what people think, who have never used them, the dog only wears the collar for a short time every day. It learns the lesson really quickly with a little batterie jolt to tell it to stop barking.
I have used the bark collar on three dogs over the years. It just simply works like a charm and the dogs don't wear them after a few days of having it on for a short time.

First, have you tried to talk to your neighbor? I assume you have tried and failed. But it is worth trying first, many pet owners will try and work with you, unfortunately some are irresponsible and cause trouble for the rest of us. I have three dogs and never leave them in the yard if they are barking, I try to be considerate to my neighbors.
Yep, as a few suggested, file a disturbing the peace or other complaint with the police (as well as your local animal control, and your neighborhood association if you have one). Many cities also have ordinances against barking dogs. It may be a pain but this is the best legal way to go. You probably don't need a lawyer but a local law clinic may help you.
Good luck

Talk with your neighbor and see if there is any thing that they can do. Dogs will bark and sometimes its a comfort in the neighborhood knowing that when a dog barks it is because it sees something. But some darks bark too much and your neighbors can look into using a muzzle on the dog at night or trying a bark collar.

Check with your city and see if they have any laws. Some cities have laws so that if you file a complaint Animal Enforcment can intervene. Otherwise, you can file a nuisance lawsuit. Sometimes the threat of a lawsuit will cause the neighbor to do something. He can get special collars to train the dog not to bark.
Last resort: record the dog barking and play it back to the neighbor when he's sleeping through a very loud speaker. It will also drive the dog crazy.

It depends on where you live. I'm in California...and I had the same problem with my neighbor's dog. I called the police several times....and the officer observed the barking dog twice. Each time the officer made a report. The third time I called the police, the officer went to my neighbor's house and told her to shut the dog up...or get a big fine. The neighbor got rid of the dog and it's been peaceful ever since. Good luck!

okay please understand that is what dogs are supposed to do is bark . second have you tried talking to the neighbor maybe they arent aware that the dog barking is bothering you. I think that calling the police would be the last resort then that would just cause you to have an angry neighbor that might retaliate on you . good luck and god bless.

HI
Find out your laws in your area if you have a no barking law then just keep making complaints. I have no law where I live and I hate it. I have even asked the owner to bring it in and crate it for the night but to no avail. The game warden in our area takes care of these kinda stuff it may be your law enforcement but find out and ask them also.

You can call the police and they will document how long it barks. Just keep calling them and eventually the owners will get ticket for the dog.

There are high-pitched contraptions that go off when pointed in the direction of the noise. i.e. pointed toward your neighbors yard, it would set off a high-pitched sound causing the dog to stop. I hear it is effective -- and harmless.
