My daughter is almost 13 and she has wanted to be a Vet for quite some time. She watches Animal Planet all the time. One of her favorite programs has to do with animal rescues. I believe it's The A.S.P.C.A.? I'm not sure. I seen an ad in our local paper that had free dogs. I called and it happened to be a Police Department. I asked if they would consider letting us foster 2-3 dogs for them. The Chief said no. Once the dogs were gone that's it. To make a long story short. We ended up bringing home 2 dogs on 12-29. One was too fat for the Chief to get in the back of his pick up (Chief has a hurt arm). So, he was 3 days over due. The other dogs time was up that day. We have one Dog Kennel that is fairly large. This Wednesday (1-3-07) three more dogs are due to meet their maker. We want to save them and others. We just don't have the funds to do so. If anybody knows how to go about getting financial help please let us know. We have the room and heart. Just not the income to keep going.

I suggest that you call your local SPCA and tell them what you want to do and they should be able to lead you in the right direction. God Bless you for wanting to save them. I am a very big animal lover and have just rescued 2 pups in the past 6 month (that we didn't need) but are very glad they have come into our lives because they bring us sooooo much joy!

I commend you for your big heart, but you may put yourself into a legal and financial hurt if you don't do your research first.
Before you take in any more animals you MUST check with
1) the local Humane Society.
2) Research city / county ordinances to see how many animals you can legally have on your property.
3) You may also need a license from the county or state agriculture board.
All these agencies can tell you what you must provide for the proper care of dogs. You may be legally required to do much more than you can afford depending on the size of operation you run. Taking care of animals is much more than just keeping them from being euthanized.

You can get in contact with pet rescue groups. There are tons listed online. This is what many of them do is go to shelters that are about to kill certain dogs or cats and they save them. There is a rescue group for nearly every breed. Example: german shephard rescue........sheltie rescue and so on.... you may want to add your location to your search. I am sure these groups would be more than happy to help you and give you direction.
