Are you in the US? If so, check the AKC for breed specific rescue groups. They are dogs that are usually given up by their owners for one reason or another and now need to find homes. You can often find dogs that would have been several thousand dollars for closer to $200. Here's a link to get you started. : )

I'm not sure any animal shelter go to your local animal shelter and chat to the staff.
"Please don't just fall for the cute looks of a beagle or a foxhound. Theses breeds require very tolerant owners. They are boisterous, difficult to train, and love to dig, chew, and escape. You must have extremely high and secure fences to keep this breed in. They are scent hounds, so if let off lead they will run off and wont come back!! On the positive side they are very social, and love to play with other dogs and kids." This is quoted from the RSPCA.
Good luck to you and your future dog.

Many of the spca's have animals on their website. So just go to your local city website and then go to the animal control site and then you are there when you click on adoption.
Beagles are very cool looking, but they are without a doubt one of the major barkers of all dogs. Especially if they are left in the yard alone with nothing else to do.

Petfinder is really the most realiable site to adopt dogs because most shelters post on that site. Another site might be www.craigslist.org (depending how popular the site is where you live) where people post pets that they want to place in good homes with an adoption fee.

Check your local "thrifty nickel".It is usually on a rack at the Walmart--7-11,,,just as you come in the door. It shows many pages of dogs needing homes. Try one of the new designer dogs. I have Shorkies,ChinTzu, Japanese Chin, Shih-Tzu's &Shar-Pei. I find that the mixed pure bred dogs are better natured and really unique. good luck

I guess if you just ask the question on the web again you can get it.
But besides that if you just look up about shelters or something you could find good things.
