Is it possible that some place questions here to get the answerers all worked up. There have been so many questions on whelping, mating, and raising puppies. Some of these questions are just down right ignorant. Its like they are being placed to get you all worked up. Why would someone go breed their dog and just a couple weeks before whelping they ask important questions about the signs and procedure?

I have a 2 1/2 year old female sheltie/beagle mix and have recently gotten another female puppy (beagle/rat terrier mix) who is 20 weeks old. Lately the older dog has been humping the puppy. Then, today, the puppy started humping the older dog. Is this normal, or is it something that I should be worried about?

When I got home today, my puppy sort of yelped and then a few hours later he did the same thing. I notice that he has been very lethargic all day. Then as I was petting him, I noticed something on his skin. It appears that a tiny insect bit him, it looks more like half of the insects body is submerged in his skin and half (the torso and little hind legs) is out. The insect is mall, like the size of a short grain of rice. Also, this is a small pink/red circle on my dog's skin around the insect. I tried to remove the insect with a pair of tweezers and I can't. What is going on? Could if be a flea or a tick? How do they attack? How would i know?

I was talking to my friend about this, and it's like, I've had so many great years and now that I'm an old man and I'm just a shadow of my former self, maybe it's time to just do the right thing-- the humane thing-- and just have someone put me down. It won't be a painful process, on the contrary, it will end all the aches and pains I've aquired now that I'm a senior citizen. I think it's the right thing to do now. I only ask that you don't throw away my favorite pair of slippers to chew on... ;-)

I have a registered female who is a few months shy of 2yrs old. When she had her first heat cycle she accidently got out of the fenced yard and i caught the stray in are yard mating with her in a lock. Well thank goodness she didnt take.
But now she is of age and i want to breed her to another registered dog with CH bloodlines. I have did all the homework and etc.. know and ups and downs and the possiblilty of loosing her during whelping or c section. But she i due for her heat (well over due) Im worried that she didnt take on her first heat with the stray she got locked with that she might not take if i bred her. Was this just because of her first heat? Or once a dog doesnt take on her first heat she is just not fertile?

every time i let him outside he barks like crazy, and this drives my neighbors nuts so i wanna teach him not to bark when he goes out i thought taping his mouth shut might help him figure it out. Now i know your thinking it will hurt when i pull it off him don't worry i was gonna wrap gauze around it first. Any one ever try this befoe?

Me and My boyfriend got into a pretty heated argument today. His pitbull which I have also helped raise since he was a puppy.. completly turned on me and lashed on to my arm in the middle of the argument. of course my arm is swollen and bruised. I am also pregnant so now I am just worried to death to have my child around this dog.. My boyfriend on the other hand took up for his dog stating that our pitbull did his job by biting me, and never once checked to see if I was okay. My question is should i attempt to give our dog another chance, or would you guys be worried if you were pregnant and not want the dog around. ( I have to big of a heart to ever have an animal put down so that i out of the question ) If anything I would just give him away. What are some options?

I am getting a new puppy in 2 weeks, a male lab. (thanks to those of you who answered my last question). I plan on crate training, and I am just curious of general thoughts, warnings, and suggestions on the topic. Is it good to start using the crate right away after he comes home?

Our 7 lb - 12 week old pug puppy is old enough now to be neutered, according to our vet. I am wondering if we should do it or not. What are the pro's / con's. How much is it?
We would have asked the vet, but he was busy with other appointments coming in, so we have to wait to talk to him next week about it, but I was just wondering....

I mean, can they do it physically? Dogs don't have lips like humans. But my friend told me she saw her rottie suck up a piece noodle. I found that hard to believe.

We got a dog from the local animal shelter. We found her on Tuesday and wanted to taker her home, but said she was in heat so we'd have to wait until they could spay/neuter her.

Thursday they called and said she was spayed. She has the stitches in. We brought her home that same night.

She still seems to be in her heat cycle. Even though she is spayed. Is this possible??

She is peeing (or acts like she's peeing, even though sometimes only 2 drops come out) every 15 minutes, inside the house. The pee is still a little bloody from being in heat.

Did it harm her that she was spayed in the middle of her heat? Is it normal for her to pee so much? Why would the shelter give her to us like this?
