he has not had his shots yet but he just started acting different this evening, not eating, not drinking, and mooping around. His nose is wet and he still wags his tail, but mooping around with sad eyes.

The symptoms of parvo are not eating/drinking, bloody diarrhea that has a metallic odor, lethargic behavior and in worst case scenarios death. It is very hard to pull a puppy out of parvo as it is a virus and it has to run it's course. You can beef it's immune system up a bit with antibiotics and medication to help it eat. The younger the puppy the lower the likelihood of survival. Parvo is passed in the stool-poop- of infected dogs and is very hardy and almost impossible to kill. it lives in the enviroment for 10 years or better and you will never know when it comes in your home because it has no odor, taste, or shape. It lives in the soil and it is one nasty virus.

If you think he has Parvo, get him to a veterinarian as soon as possible. They will run a simple test to see if he is positive. if he is they will place an IV for medication and fluid therapy and that's really all that can be done. It's called Supportive care and the prognosis isn't good. He will stay in the hospital till he either gets better or dies. It isn't something that you should try to treat at home.

I can only agree with the others that the pup must go to the vet ASAP. Puppies are expensive if you want a healthy pup. It should have been seen by the vet around 5-6 wks for first deworming and shots. They get 3 sets of shots and deworm at least twice.

No you can not take care of this at home despite another response you received. Pups can catch several different illnesses. It may just need deworming. I am assuming you cared enough to put the pup on a good quality puppy chow.

Another responder listed the signs of Parvo very fully. Those signs can come on very quick--like in a matter of hours! Dehydration is a vital problem if pup quits drinking or drinks and vomits back up quickly. You did not say anything about other dogs in home and that is also a issue. A wet nose is not a real sign of being ok or not!

Isolate the pup to a carrier or box as the Parvo virus is hard to get rid of. Keep warm. Hot ears indicate fever. Pale, whitish gums instead of very pink is also a urgent sign.

For the pups sake I just hope it needs a regular vetting and it is not serious. It is a horrid death for these babies and so avoidable!!!

You must force feed this pup if it has any chance of surviving. The pup can survive parvo, but it must be attended to promptly. You didn't say whether it had any diarrhea or vomiting and that usually goes with parvo virus.Get some baby non-flavored pediolyte and force as much down your pet as possible.Take away all water and food and just give it the pediolyte for about 24 hours. Then try boiling some chicken ,cut in small pieces and put in blender with a small amount of the broath and puree it,try your pup on that.If it still won't eat,I would suggest calling your vet.Another thing that could cause it not to eat is mak sure it is up to date on deworming.A small pup should be wormed every two weeks until at least 14 wks. old.Panacur is a very safe wormer, but must be given by weight for thre days in a row.You can purchase this at a vet clinic,Or try the Nemex 2 wormer you can purchase at any feed store, but follow directions on dosage. Also try giving your pet a dab of honey,or plain karo syrup on its tongue,as if it isn't eating this will keep its sugar level up,and keep it from becoming listless.

I've seen parvo..doesn't look like that..they almost immediately have terrible gastric pain and then diarrhoea that is "black" and smells horrible/with blood.

almost sounds like distemper.. Try to get water down him, and keep him hydrated at least. Then straight to the vet asap.

With distemper, they don't want water and their nose runs, eventually turning to a really bad runny nose of colour.. I won't go into it any further..

Or he ate something and it's stuck, my pup did that by chewing a Popsicle stick.. vet had to operate

Why hasn't he had shots?? He should have had a couople of sets so far. You ned to take him to the vet tomorrow and have him checked over good. If he does have parvo, the vet will start treatment. If he doesn't have it, he will start the shots. Better late than never.

GET HIM TO A VET IMMEDIATELY! With prompt vet care he MAY have a chance. If caught in the early stages (which it sounds like your pup is in) there is a chance treatment by a qualified veterinarian will work. However, there is no guarantee. The usual outcome from Parvo is poor.

You really need to take the pup to a vet. sick. What makes you think that he has Parvo? Does he have bloody diarrhea or vomiting?

It's possible that he's moping around because he needs to be wormed. Please take him to the vet ASAP. If he does have Parvo, the sooner you get him to the vet, the better his chances.

GET HIM TO THE VET!!!!! Parvo can kill in a few days. You need to see a vet. It is, can be, fatal. At 10 weeks he should have already had some shots. GET HIM TO THE VET !!!!!
Good luck.

Get him to a vet. Mine got Parvo at 16wks and had to have a blood transfusion...he definitely would have not survived if we hadnt taken him to the vet immediately and left him there to be taken care of.

Definately go to the Vet. They can help your pup to survive. If you wait it out chances are he will pass. The Vet will probably give your pup meds to get better and maybe an IV if he's dehydrated.

Good Luck.
