You can pop them, which is an arguement I have already dealt with today, or you could get Prescription meds from your Vet, which is like "frontline" except it actually works. Or you could mix a small amount of garlic into the dogs food, it will take several days, but the flea's won't bother her. Then you have to protect the puppies also.
OR, if it were me I would use the garlic and get some flea dip solution from petsmart or petco and dappen a cloth and rub it on her, I do not think it will hurt the puppies. Bathing is OK, but the solution of soap is not strong enough to kill all the flea's.

For the fleas on the dog, run a tub of warm water about 5-6 inches deep and add about a cup of lemon juice, soak the momma dog in this for about 5 min (make sure she is soaked)
then rinse her very well around her teats, this will kill the flea and the eggs they leave behind (the smell will be bad but this is the safest thing you can use on a nursing dog), before mom is allowed to go back into the whelping box or her bed sprinkle borax (laundry additive) in, on and around it, take a broom or brush and kinda sweep it into the fabric, wait a few minutes and vacuum, this should take care of the fleas that are off of mom, as for the puppies just sit and pick them off and drop them in a glass of dish water.good luck

Give her a bath in the Dawn dishwashing liquid, but be sure to rinse well. This will kill all fleas and is very safe, but don't put any medicated shampoo on the Mom,or any flea medications on a nursing Female. The Dawn is used by rescue organizations of wildlife.

Garlic is harmful to dogs and frontline is not safe for pregnant or nursing dogs. There is prescription called capstar which is a pill that is safe for pregnant dogs that gets rid of fleas w/in 30 mins. 90% of fleas are gone w/in 4 hrs. ingestion. Another one is Program which is injectable and given every 6 months. This is through your vet as well and is like the birth control pill for fleas. Your best bet is to give Capstar and then have the Program given. You need to call your vet for both of these. Capstar is also safe for puppies at 4 weeks and older. So call your vet so you dont run into other problems. :)

I have used the garlic with success, as well as Dawn soap.
The grease fighting stuff in Dawn, suffacates the fleas.

There is also a flea spray, called "De Flea" that is safe for all dogs, puppies, and nursing mothers. It also works.

The Dawn suggestion you had earlier is the way to go. We have three, very spoiled puppies. We use Dawn for the fleas when they show there little faces, then use a good quality dog shampoo to get the clean nice smell. Be sure to rinse well around the "feeding area", after leaving it on for a few minutes. Of course you probably already know not to use one of the treatments that get absorbed. Good luck!

Absoloutly Do Not use any soap or dishwashing liquid. The best way to get rid of the fleas is to take your dog to a professional groomer. Be sure to tell the groomer that your dog is nursing. Using soap on your dog will poison the puppies. If you cant afford a professional groomer go and purchase a metal pronged lice comb, you can pic them up at any Wal-Mart or pharmacy, make sure it is a metal pronged lice comb. You may have to seperate the pups from your dog and bottle feed the pups for a while.

Use an over the counter flea soap that is safe for puppies and rinse mom well. It shouldn't effect her nursing puppies if you use a soap on her that is safe for puppies.

please seek a veterinarian or professional groomers opinion. I would not mess around with the health of the puppies. I'm not sure as to what is safe or not, but I advise you speak to a vet please.

~note DO NOT USE ANY HUMAN PRODUCTS ON YOUR DOGS!~

Also, most over the counter flea meds I've came across say not to use them on a nursing/pregnant dog, or her puppies.

A lot of people swear by Dawn dishwashing liquid. Bathe her in it. It just might work. Leave it on a few minutes and make sure you rinse her off good afterwards.
