My dog fights me tooth and nail when it is time to trim his nails, he squirms and fights to get away. It usually takes me about a hour to trim them fighting the whole time. I found out by accident today how to do it with no trouble at all. While standing in front of a mirror, Hold the dog under one arm, with your free hand use your clippers to trim his nails. I don't know why it worked but it did, my dig didn't move a muscle and it was over in 3 minutes. Try it and let me know if if works for you.

My dog has been shivering and sometimes cries when he jumps off the bed. He isn't sleeping much and is acting nervous. I'm taking him to the vet in a few days but I want to keep him as comfortable till then. I think it may be arthritis or some kind of joint problem. He is almost 6 years old and is a boxer. I would like any suggestions as to what he may have or what I can give him to keep him comfortable. I love his sooo much I just hate to see him this way.

Any time I have food or something he wants he will howl and howl and bark non stop. He bites me like crazy, and is just a huge pain in the @$$ ! I love him to death and he is not like this with my husband or any other males, just around me and any kids that come close to him. He is not like this ALL the time, he will be all sweet and cuddly at bed time, he sleeps with us in bed all thru the night. Why is he doing this though? What can i do? I smack him lightly on the nose every time he does it and say "NO!" really mean. But that seems to piss him off and he howls louder, almost like he's saying "You B**CH, what'd you hit me for!" lol, make him stop please!

He is 3 months old, a pug and spoiled freakin rotten.

My new puppy, is great when you are there, but as soon as you leave, he manages to jump the child gate to the kitchen and do his business in the house, even though he has just been out. He also is quite distructive. He follows you everywhere and i believe that his previous owners left him on his own quite a lot. I go back to work next week and need him to be on his own. I live where i work so i can keep popping up and taking him out but he needs to learn that being alone is ok!
I have been leaving gradually this week and a little longer each time but he really does not like it!!

Okay here is the whole story (since a lot of people like to jump all over you if they don't know the exact situtation). My husband rescued a little pit mix last weekend from where he almost ran over her. The vet estimates she is about a month or two old. I already have a Chihuahua who is 8 months old. The thing is yesterday he started trying to get his groove on if you know what I mean. She is wide awake and will not let him...it's kind of funny to watch him....because all he gets is a bite or two. Anyway. I know I'm going to have to neuter him or spay her if not both. I've heard that neutering changes their attitude and they become lazy. I really don't want his character to change, I love the way he is. Which is why I'm leaning to having her spayed. At the same time though, I don't want him not being neutered to get him in trouble with her in the future since I'm sure he'll still try and she'll be big enough to bite his head off.

I just want to make sure that I'm not going crazy and that YES - debarking dogs is incredibly inhumane. There seems to be so much support for it out there. Dogs are not dumb animals - they bark to express their emotion and to attract attention. If a dog barks incessently, you do your best to train it not to. There are so many obedience schools out there just dying for clients. Why couldn't the lazy arses who have a hole punched in their dog's vocal cords have thought of this first? what is wrong with people that debarking is even considered as an option? I think it would be heart-breaking to hear my dog bark in a whispery, hoarse little voice - I LOVE his bark - screw the neighbours!!!

Our resident dog Madison (female, age 2, 15 lbs.) is great interacting with people and dogs, though she tends to be submissive. We recently got a new puppy, Quincy, who is male, 4 months, and about 15 lbs. Madison has played intermittently with Quincy, though she prefers to watch him play while she's sitting on the couch undisturbed. We have paid equal amounts of attention to the dogs.

I understand that resident dogs tend to need to adjust to a new puppy. However, yesterday Madison seemed to sort of "shut down." A normally happy dog, she has refused to make eye contact with me, she yips and whimpers at me if I touch her, and spends most of the day sitting in her crate. She hasn't eaten at all today and is uninterested in spending time with me, even if the new puppy is away in another room, sleeping. I'm starting to get really worried about her!

Is this a normal reaction or is something else going on? If anyone has any suggestions or advice, I would really appreciate it.

My dog is named after the character that Michael Richards played on Seinfed: Kramer.

Do you think I should change it because of what that guy did?
