First of all, the poop chart is worthless, as it all depends on what you feed the dog, and all dogs are different in their bowel habits, just as humans are..
Second, change his kibble to one that is dense in nutrients, and has no fillers..Corn, Wheat, Soy, equal WASTE, which is POOP.
I have many dogs! and they all poop at least twice a day..the 2 year olds, sometimes 3 times..
Take him for walks, instead of just putting him out, as walking stimulates bowel action..He will likely have to go about 30 minutes after eating, if not sooner..You can spread down a couple of bags of sand, to encourage him to go n one area..(get it at garden center or hardware)
If you are scolding him for pooping where he shouldn't, you are making a trauma out of a normal function, an it only makes him more afraid to do it outside..No more scolding, but only praise for when he does it where you want..

Dogs usually poop within about half an hour of eating. So don't leave food out there for him to eat. Feed him regularly (2 or 3 times a day) at the same time, when you have one hour when you don't need to go anywhere. Shortly after he eats (maybe 15 minutes) take him outside and don't pay much attention to him, just walk around the yard or sit still, don't play with him, don't pet him, just let him do his own thing. In time he'll poop. Once he does, praise him like crazy, give him a treat if you want, or just use verbal praise and a lot of petting.
He might be afraid to poop in front of you because of something you've done before, maybe you saw him pooping in the house and scolded him really harshly. He doesn't understand that it's bad to poop inside yet, he was pooping, you scolded him, so he thinks you get mad when he poops. So you'll have to be extra patient with him now, but take him outside after a meal and wait as long as it takes, then praise and repeat.
With drinking, the dog could need to go as quickly as 5 minutes after, so again, I would control the water intake and try to be there when he drinks so you can take him outside right after that, wait for him to go, praise him, play with him.
If he starts going in the house, do not scold him or hurt him, just immediately pick him up and take him outside, even if he's peeing all the way there (I know it's gross, but that's what you have to do). When he finishes doing it outside, you praise him.
That should do it. Dedicate a weekend to this, so you are there most of the time and it'll make it easier. Actually if you're getting a long weekend because of Thanksgiving, that'd be the best.
Also, I highly recommend Good Owners, Great Dogs by Brian Kilcommons, you can usually find it at your local bookstore. It'll teach you more about how the dogs learn and how to teach them just about anything. This book has been a lifesaver for me and really improved my understanding of dogs.

What you are feeding your dog may have an effect on how much he is going and how often. Also you might be over feeding your dog. Brands with lots of fillers tend to result in more poop. For training him, you might want to try crate training. Since he is six mos. old, I would take him potty to a specific outdoor area and when he goes potty, praise him. Bring him inside and observe him carefully. If he starts to sniff and circle like he is about to go, quickly take him to that same outdoor spot. After he is out for an hour, put him in the kennel/crate for two hrs. After two hrs. take him outside to his spot right away. When he goes to the bathroom praise him. If he doesn't go, take him inside and watch for the circling/sniffing and take him out as needed. Repeat this for a few days. If he is doing good, extend the time out and lessen the time in the crate.
The crate should only be big enough for him to turn around and stand up in. Don't put any towels or bedding in there as it may encourage him to potty on it.
Since he is six mos. old, this should make a difference in a short period of time. Clean your carpets with a product designed to remove the scent.
