My dog has been shivering and sometimes cries when he jumps off the bed. He isn't sleeping much and is acting nervous. I'm taking him to the vet in a few days but I want to keep him as comfortable till then. I think it may be arthritis or some kind of joint problem. He is almost 6 years old and is a boxer. I would like any suggestions as to what he may have or what I can give him to keep him comfortable. I love his sooo much I just hate to see him this way.

Shivering is often a sign of pain, combined with crying when jumping off the bed I'd suspect a back injury. Call the vet and explain the situation, ask if you can give him something. In the meantime, keep him as quiet as possible (crate him if you have one) and especially don't let him jump up or down.

My dog hurt his back leg about 6 months ago and would do the same. I kept him off of the bed so he didn't create any more pain. One morning he just refused to walk. He was placed on some pain meds for about 4 weeks. He now takes glucosamine daily and has been fine. He's only 1 1/2 yrs old. Weighs about 70 lbs. He's a red nose pit. Do take yours to the vet so the proper treatment can be done. It does make a big difference. Good luck. Hope it's not anything major.

Sounds like he's in quite a bit of pain. It could be anything. He could have hurt his legs or back. His could have a kidney infection, that makes them seem like they have a back injury. He seems kind of young to have arthritis, but he may have hurt the joint somehow.

You could call the vet and see if they wouldn't allow you to give him a Bufferin. He'll let you know the doseage. He might not want to do that until he sees him though.

For now, I'd keep him off of anything he has to jump up or down from. Shivering may be an indication of him in quite a bit of pain though.

Good luck to you both.

you know what sometimes dogs act a little diffrant because they can sense when somethings going to happen... maybe a big earthquake is going to happen... or maybe not but usually that's what happens...
