We just adopted a 5 year old Lhasa from a shelter. He is a great dog and behaves fairly well. However, he has had kennel cough and currently has an upper respiratory infection. He is not leash trained and no matter what I try, he keeps chocking himself by pulling on the leash. I have found tons of long term training ideas but I need to help me stop now. Any suggestions?

I have two dogs in my house, both Wheaten Terriers. One is male, one is female, and they get along fine with each other. Digby, the male, loves all other dogs, goes to doggy day care, plays at the dog park, never causes any problems. But when my son's Great Dane comes to visit, he bares his teeth, and attacks. It's a real problem, because now my son won't come to the house at all, because he's a student and can't leave the dog at school when he comes back for the holidays.

Any thoughts on why this should happen? The GD, Bella, is about five months old, weighs probably 70lbs, and is as sweet as you could hope for, and is not aggressive, although she defends herself against Digby. She has not been fixed yet, could that have anything to do with it?

Any thoughts on how to stop them fighting?

I've grown up with dogs my whole life and want that for my children. I tend to prefer the larger (less yappy) breeds, but having recently lost my american bull dog, which I loved very much, I am having a hard time accepting the shorter life span of the large breeds. I'm really not sure where to go from here. Our home does not have a lot of yard space, but we are close to a park so energy level is not a problem. I also prefer short hair, low maintenance breeds. Anyone have any suggestions for me?

Okay I asked a question before about changing my dogs name, because his name is Kramer, which is the name of the character Michael Richards played on Seinfeld.

I'm not sure what to do. Some people said I should change it, and some people said I shouldn't, so I asked this again with a little more info. My dog is 10 years old so he is used to the name, and it’s the name he had as a puppy when we adopted him. He's really active for his age and very playful and when I take him for walks, sometimes people stop, and ask to pet him and they ask what his name is. Wouldn’t that make it a little awkward? The big thing on the blogs, and websites right now is: “KKKramer”

I think that anyone who has seen the video of Michael Richardson saying what he did (and anyone who watches the news, has most likely seen it), would have a changed opinion about him, and even though “Kramer” is just a TV character name, the person that played that person is Michael Richardson and most people know that

My Fiance wants to buy another puppy?

How do I explain to my Fiancée that it is best to wait in getting another puppy after we are married?

Currently, we owned one little weenie dog and I adore her with all my heart. But having two weenie dogs is going to be more responsibility. Especially we both work full time and we live in apartment. Also, I have wedding expenses in putting away for honeymoon and her wedding ring. We just can't afford another puppy right now and I prefer to wait after we are married. My fiancée desire for another puppy, but I really feel it's best to settle down in our lives before adding another addition to our family.

How should I explain or what should I say to her?

I asked a rhetorical question. I know why. I am so furious with America's ignorance with this issue. Did you know that on average, 2,009 dogs and cats die every hour in this country? You do the math. People think dogs are dispensable. People think that spaying and netuering will do more harm than good, when really, there is nothing farther from the truth. We keep producing all these extra animals that we do not have enough homes for. I work in a rescue, and people give me the most lamest excuses for having to surrender. "It's just not working out". ****.
And do not even get me started on designer dogs!! Shame on anyone who breeds or buys one of these dogs. They are not hypoallergenic, all dogs have dander. These are purposely bred mutts, just for profit. I think those who breed these dogs ought to go to jail or at least have their heads examined.
America needs a major overhaul. We need a mandatory spay and neuter program. Only registered studs/bitches should be bred.
