I have a link to a great link that you can print out and keep on the fridge that lists foods that you should never give your dog.

Oh, and chicken is not one of them. Chicken is fine for your dog in moderation and is in many dog foods , as well.

Don't feed cooked chicken or fish with the bones still in, those cooked bones can be bad as they splinter and can hurt the inside of the dogs. Actually I don't think you can feed fish with bones still in it at all. Anything which is bad for you probably isn't too good for your dog, so stay away from that too. Raw chicken, like chicken wings and necks, is good for them as it cleans their teeth and gives them some variety in their diet. Onions and garlic are bad and so are some nuts.

If you're careful, feeding your dog other foods besides dog food is a really good idea. No animal wants to only eat one type of food everyday for it's whole life and variety leads to a healthier happier dog.

My mom has worked in a vets office for a long time. She said that anything dairy isn't good for animals. Dogs and cats are lactose intolerant. So unless you want to clean up some nasty BMs I wouldn't give it to them. The only other thing that is bad for them is bones. Like chicken, steak etc. They can very easily choke on them. Obviously dog bones are fine. I hope this has helped....

In addition to some of the things mentioned above, be sure to avoid preservatives. Some cheaper foods and treats, especially soft ones, have these. For instance, BHT is really bad and has been linked to seizures in dogs.

Good luck and thank you for caring about your dog's health.

This is just one of many sites. You can also go to the ASPCA Poison Control Center web site and research.

ONE MORE THING, when researching online, PLEASE make sure that your resource is trustworthy. Don't take just any list off any site. Be sure that the person writing the list has some education and provides that information to you as well as a way to contact them. That's why I trust the ASPCA related sites more then anything.

Food that is not good is anything processed, like hotdogs, anything high in fat and starch like donuts. Try to feed him foods in their orginal form, like boiled chicken, with no sauce, salt or anything added. Some dogs love apples and carrots. I had a dog who loved to eat bananas!

Onions, raisins, grapes are all bad. Any bone pretty much can get splintery and damage their digestive system or poke their tongues and mouths.

Too much fat, like chicken skin or bacon, can cause pancreatitis.

Caffeine, alchohol, tobacco products, raisins, onions, garlic, non-aspirin pain relievers, some plants, and anything that would make a person sick.
