Spring time

The spring so you have spring, summer and fall to train the puppy before everyone is locked in if you are in cold weather climate. Dogs should not be christmas presents; starts off on the wrong foot; too much activity for a puppy; if you are cold climates, hard to train in the snow and ice; if you are thinking of what is best for the puppy to make a part of the family then do it at a time of year that's right for him when time can be devoted to just him, a puppy is a living breathing animal not this years tickle me elmo. Sounds cute for people not for the puppy to be an xmas gift.

Well, DON'T get a Christmas dog. It's not a good idea. The poor puppy is overwhelmed enough by being separated from its mother. The chaos of Christmas would contribute on the puppy feeling uncomfortable. Instead, maybe get all of the puppy supplies and place them under the tree and get the puppy a couple of weeks later. Summer would be the other good time because its warm and the kids can help.

I would suggest go to your local shelter around March. That is when the major surrendering to the shelters in America occurs. People get dogs for Christmas and then think, Whoops, we cannot keep this dog, darn, let's give him up, he won't mind! Idiots.
There are puppies available, fine mixed breeders, and many other varieties available.
Cocker spaniel mixes and shepherd mixes make great family dogs, and are often found a county shelters. Or, look in to www.petfinder.com for your area rescue groups.
Also, choose a time period when at least you and the kids will be home to help settle the dog in to his/her new home. This is the adjustment period and a great time to bond with the dog and make her feel at home. Christmas is not a great time for bringing home a puppy, but consider Spring Break, when you and the kids will be home and can lavish love and attention on your new friend.
Hope this helps.

I think summer time would be the best time. This is because the kids would be home and would get to know the dog better than if they were in school. It would also be much easier to housebreak the dog when you arent taking it out in the freezing cold winters. Since puppies have alot of energy, during summer you can take it for walks, let it run around and burn off some of their energy because it is nice outside everyday.

I think the best time to get a puppy would be in the spring/summer when the kids will be home to spend time with the new puppy, it will be easier for "potty" trianing in the summer, (it's cold out in the winter for those emergency "potty" runs at night)

I would never get a puppy around the holidays it's to much for the puppy when they are trying to a ajust to a new home and you are the family are busy and new people coming over, or you might even be going way, wait until you have time to spend with the puppy for training ect.. you will have more fun with a well trained puppy!!!

I recieved my first dog on a Christmas and it was the best gift I had ever recieved. But if you're going to buy one without an occasion, I would suggest either spring or summer so that way you don't have to bother training in the cold winter. It's difficult to train a dog when there's snow first of all because it's cold and you may have to wait outside with it for a while, and because when the snow melts, the dog gets confused because it was used to going on the white snow. If you live somewhere where it doesn't snow much, I would say anytime.

During Christmas. The best present ever on the best day ever! But that might be a while from now if you plan on giving them one next year. I wish my parents would give me a puppy.
Bless You
