You could make him stop running away by using a leash that he can't bite through or get him on a chain. Or you could put him in a chained fence.

You first need to find out why the dog is running away. Document the dog's behavior prior to it running away and then look at the reason it choose to run and give the dog a reason th stay with you. Example: Baby, a abused 7 month old white shepherd had been severely beating before I got her. She was extremely frightened and a runner. I had to pay high fees until I learned why she was a runner. She wasn't running from me she was running to happier times before the abuse. She remembered when she could see and played with her momma; so she would breakout of a six foot double sided wood fence and run across dangerous highways to find her momma. She is blind from her abuse years but she doesn't run from me nor leave my side and I love her dearly. So figure out why she is running and where she is running to. That is where you start besides the fence and the electronic collar and all else; Baby only has the fence now and she goes with me in the car and for walks and controlled runs in the fields.

Put up a fence, don't let him out the front door without a leash, and treat him well enough that he won't want to leave.
My dog goes out in the front yard with me to get the mail or take out the trash, and he never strays from my side because he is the most spoiled dog on the planet. I think he has figured out that other dogs don't get leftover cheese, don't get taken to the dog park every day, don't get a daily belly rub, don't get talked to in a soothing and loving voice every day. They're not as dumb as they look.

Use a leash, unless your dog is in a properly fenced area.
If you ever want to be able to have your dog off leash, this takes ALOT of training ON LEASH to get it down and alot of time and consistency. Some dogs/breeds never are able to go off leash due to their prey drive... they see a squirrel and they're gone.
Get into a class where you can learn some of the basics in training.

the best thing to do is determine why is he running away . is he a new dog and you just got him , is he nuerted ,if not is he looking for females , just build him a big kennel with his house in it and have a fenced yard so he can not leave , kennels are better then tying dogs will adjust better in a kennel then being tyed .

Monitor the dog when it is outside. Keep him/her on a leash or in a fenced in secure yard. If he/she still gets out of the yard do not let him/her in the yard without supervision.

Keep him on leash or in a secure yard when outside. Take him to obedience class and teach him to come when called.

get a wired fence in your back yard for him. and get a kennel and a chain. keep him/her in the back yard. or if its a small dog, then just keep it inside and put it on a leash when you want to walk it.
