dogs are complex little critters. He may be feeling insecure since his owner left. Try not to baby him or give him any special attention when he is acting up. If you feel sorry for him, and try to coddle him, it will just reinforce the negative behaviors. Give him some time to adjust. Don't let him go after the kitty, everytime he even looks at the cat wrong, correct him. Mean sounds are better than saying NO! (ever watch the dog whisperer?)
Anyway, if he doesn't have to sleep in your room, don't let him. It sounds like he's trying to claim it as his space, thus he doesn't want the cat around. If you could get him a crate that could be his own, it might make him feel a little more secure.
if problems get worse, you may want to talk to your vet or a dog trainer!

Did you just ask this same question less than 15 minutes ago or is this an incessant question? The only real advice anyone can give you is to grow up, get a job, move somewhere pet friendly, get all tenants in the house/apartment's permission, and then consider getting a dog. Seriously, your mom is already paying for *you.* Until you're self-sufficient what your mother says goes. Period.

It sounds like your mother's dog is having separation anxiety and jealousy issues. Speak to a trainer about possible solutions. I would try one thing. Get the cat a perch that is just his and the dog a dog bed that is just his. That way the animals can have their own places in your space. Perhaps this will make it more neutral for the dog. Good luck.

Sounds like he was protective of your mom and since she's gone he needs somebody to protect and be close to. He probably feels the kitten is getting in the way. Just give him lots of affection and attention.

The dog has latched onto you as its master now and it wants to be number 2 in the hierarchy of the pack. Before, when you weren't master, it couldn't care less about the cat. Now the dog thinks that it has to compete for your attention.

maybe you should seperate them and let the dog sleep on one side and the kitten on the other end. if it doesn't work, let the cat or dog in the hallway and close your door.Did your mom die or vacation?
