I have a 7 month old Golden retriever and was wonder how you people wash your dogs in winter. I usually wash her in the tub but I dont want to put her outside in the cold when she is wet. Can I use a hair dryer to dry her fur???

My dogs got in a fight and one got a puncture would on the top of her head. We took her to the vet and they put one stiitch in it to close it up a little but would still leave it open enough to drain. She's on antibiotics and antiinflammatories. This happened Tuesday night. It's still oozing pus and it stinks. How long should it be before it closes over and stops oozing> I'm not sure if she pawed at it and tore a scab off or not. Just wondering if it's normal to still be oozing 4 days after the injury occurred.

anyway this started about a week and a half ago no apparent reason for his blood count to be going down. Does any one know what could be causing this. This is a mystery even to the vet. Does anyone know what could be causing a dogs red blood cell to be going down? Is predizone usually used to build it back up?

I have 2 bassets, they both smell but the boy who is 6 months is very smelly. I try not to wash them much as its bad for their skin and I use a nice shampoo from the vets but he just has a "BO problem" as my Dad calls it - Basset Odour!!!! I heard put vinegar in the water when bathing them is this ok apparently my Mum saw a vet say it on TV and the smell is too much yeast or something any ideas??

Hi everyone,
I dont know what to do. I am so discouraged. I have adopted a German Shepperd at a local shelter nearly 2 years ago...she is now a little over 2...She is my heart and soul...but the thing is that not only does she bite hard...she attacks us at home...What should I do? (She had a private trainer because I dont have a car...and it didnt help at all)......

I definetely need some advices...

My dog, Kimbo who is a 20 months old Bernese Mountain dog had the fur shaved off over his 'elbow' joints area when he was being investigated for very severe limping; the fur is taking a long time to grow, on his right front leg, the skin under the fur seems to be drying up and I can peel the skin (with fur attached) off; apart from keeping the area clean and putting polysparin oitment on, is there anything I can do to stop the condition and help the fur grow back?

Having browsed around the site, somebody (who I won't name, but whose answers are usually well thought out and informative) has made the point about veterinary journals showing that 3-yearly injections for dogs have been found to be safe and effective.

Where would I look to find out more? Either an internet link or whereabouts to look in the library would be very helpful.

I'll have to check the conditions of my pet insurance but I think not having annual injections probably invalidates it, so I might have little choice anyway though. Besides, there's no way I'd even consider it if I thought it would compromise my dog's health.

Whilst certainly not up to PhD level, I'm FAIRLY scientifically minded, and will be able to ask if there's anything too complicated, so don't worry too much about any journals being written at too high a level.

Much appreciated.

went to vets last week for worming tablets and flee spray(just as precaution, he has not got flees) anyway, i applied the flee spray to him, does anyone know if the spray imbeds in their skin or does it just stay on fur. i was advised by vet to spray him about every six weeks. want to give him a bath i am not sure if i should spray him again. thanks in advance.

The kids really want a dog, but I'm allergic and my allergist has told me that I should only have a dog that's kept outside. I would like for my children to enjoy having dogs, but I'm also thinking about how happy the dogs will be outside. We live in a nice climate. The yard is also spacious and the previous owners have installed an invisible fence. What are your thoughts on using the fence as well? Thanks to all who answer, and ten points goes to the best answer.
