Puppies have a habbit of picking up and chewing everything - I have one just now that grabbed a bumble bee by the fur on its back and she spat a well chewed slug on the kitchen floor.

All you can do is keep an eye on it when its outside and take anything off it, is shouldn't have.

We have trained our puppy to come to us when she picks anything up and she will let us take it from her.

If you do this be aware you can get some nasty surprises.

She will grow out of it especially if you train it.

As long as the slugs haven't eaten any slug pellets ! My Golden Retrievers have both tried slugs and snails but have both now grown out of it - thankfully ! I don't suppose they taste so good !

Slugs are OK, but slug pellets are deadly poison. And for some reason dogs are attracted to eating them!

Theoretically, No. Dogs are designed through evolution to handle all kinds of insects and other such things. In fact, slugs are probably not that much different to his digestive tract than anything else he eats currently, while you aren't looking anyway. Just be sure to watch him later, as some dogs can become sick. It is rare, but it can happen.

If he finishes all the ones in your garden, send him over to me - I've got plenty! Seriously, I don't think it will hurt him - other animals eat them regularly. Just make sure he can't get hold of slug pellets - they are very harmful to dogs. ( Sorry if I'm stating the obvious here!)

yes. They carry all kinds of nasty things like worms. If a slug has eaten slug poison it will kill your puppy. Have a bit of common sense.

Slugs are just snails without a shell, and people eat snails. It's gross, but I doubt it will hurt him. Silly puppy!
