My neighbors have two 12 week old puppies, one was really sick, they couldnt afford to take the puppy to the vet so they called animal control, who came out and took the dog away, animal control did say that she didnt think what the puppy had was life threatening, but now their other puppy is showing similar signs as the first puppy. My question is, can my dogs, who are both up to date on their shots (one is due for shots in a little over two weeks) contract whatever it is, even though they had little exposure to the dog, just some sniffing and touching through a hole in the fence. I am going out of town in three days, and now I am afraid to leave them....

my dog seems to get hot really easily. its been really hot where we live and she lays around and pants all day. she still begs to go for walks but when i take her she cant go for that long and she just pants and pants. i have noticed when i see othe pit bulls walking they are always doing the same thing. we even had to go buy her her own little fan and she spends all day laying in front of it. is this common for the breed do they just get hot really easily or something? they have such short hair it doesnt seem like they would get so hot. i have done a lot of research on pits and i dont ever remember anything saying that they get hot easily. oh and do you think my dog needs shoes when we got on walks because the ground gets really hot do you think her feet burn? i know these things seem silly to worry about but my dog is my baby.

Why buying puppies from pet stores is deplorable:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/08/15/national/main1897821.shtml

A trailer carrying dozens of puppies to Northeast pet stores caught fire just off an interstate, killing all of the estimated 60 dogs inside, authorities said.

The puppies were a variety of breeds between the ages of 8 and 12 weeks, according to a state police news release.

A preliminary investigation indicated that a malfunctioning fan in the rear of the trailer may have started the fire, police said. No charges have been filed.

The truck was owned by the Hunte Corp. of Goodman, Mo., a major puppy supplier for pet stores.
-------

8 to 12 week old puppies, shipped in bulk in semi trailers from Missouri to Massachussets, like boxes of cereal or stuffed animals.

At least livestock trailers have windows.

How can people buy puppies from pet stores, encouraging and financing this sort of treatment?

Why are pet owners sitting on their hands?
Is it that most people don't know whats happening. It is not about BLS any more. There are people out there trying to take our right to own pets away. With California trying to make it angist the law to have an unaltered pet at all. If you do not know what that means on one will be able to have show dogs becasue you can not show a altered dog. There are states and city passing laws you can not have pets like hamsters, rats ginnie pigs, exotic brids like paroits, snakes and tropcal fish. For those who thinks PETA will help:
Here is a quote from Ingrid Newkirk PETA’s president.
“I don’t use the word “pet.” I think it’s speciesist language. I prefer “companion animal.” For one thing, we would NO LONGER ALLOW BREEDING.. People could not create different breeds. There would be no pet shops. If people had companion animals in their homes, those animals would have to be refugees from the animal shelters and the streets. You would have a protective relationship with them just as you would with an orphaned child. But as the surplus of cats and dogs (artificially engineered by centuries of forced breeding) declined, eventually companion animals would be phased out, and we would return to a more symbiotic relationship – enjoyment at a distance — Ingrid Newkirk, PETA’s President, quoted in The Harper’s Forum Book, Jack Hitt, ed., 1989, p.223. “

The problem is people think no one pays attention to PETA. That is why they can, Without people taking notice, they have put their people in postions to carry out thier wish and take away our rights and impose their will. They take in almost 30 million dollars a year. They kill 90% of the animals they take in. Where do you think the money is going.

My boyfriend and I are looking to purchase a puppy for ourselves but we're not really sure where exactly to go. We don't have the money to buy from a breeder and we've had some nasty experiences with Save-a-pet. Any ideas on where we could look?

My breeder is very nice and is keeping me well informed about the health of the golden retriever puppies but 3 out of 9 have died and they were born 5 days early. The vets at the hospital have diagnosed an intestianal bacterial infection and they may have a virus. Is there a possiblity the remaining puppies could beat this and be perfectly fine or would I be wise to back out of this litter and wait for another litter?

I have an 8-week old Golden Retriever and I have noticed that sometimes his right front leg will shake. He will just be sitting and it will tremor for a few seconds until he starts walking again. Can this be just from exercise, like overexcited muscles? Anyone else experienced this?

we have a six ft. chain link fenced yard on 1/2 an acre. i have four dogs.yes all besides the puppy are fixed. he keeps digging his way out within a matter of min. to play with the dog across the street. he always is back the second i call him. my neighbors are terrified of dogs however and last time he got out( i had him before he even left the front yard) they called animal control. the officer said that if he gets called again then Gus has to go to doggy jail. h es been to obedience and we go to the puppy park every night plus he gos out jogging with me every other day. i dont want to chain him up i think thats mean since we have a huge yard. we even put cinder blocks along the bottum of the fence but he still gets out.

OK- So, about 9 months ago my vet asked me if I wanted to get my dog tested for hw and put her on hw meds. I couldn't afford it so I said no. The vet tech took me aside and told me that the test was a scam, but she ended up testing my dog anyway for free.

Now I have another dog and I am in the same situation. I have a friend who knows a lot about dogs and thinks it is a scam too. What is the point of the test? Is it true or just a rumor that if they have heartworm and go on the meds that they will die? What are the chances of that? What are the risks???? Side effects??? Is it true that the preventative med and the treatment for heartworm is the SAME? Thanks!!!!
