OK I have a dog and she is very hyper and we are trying to calm her down, my boyfriend told me that his mom gives their dog half a tablet of graval and that calms it down and it goes to sleep. I wanted to know if it was ok? and in what dose's?

Hi Some human medications can be given to dogs, My vet who I 100% trust actually gave me a human drug prescription as It would be 40% cheaper then the dog brand even though they had the exact same ingredients. But to give your dog medication based on what other people do or say is silly. Yes their vet may say its ok for their dog to do that but that does not mean its ok for your dog to do that. You there are so many factors that effect a dog when you give it any form of medication like weight, age, breed etc.. so ALWAYS talk to your vet before giving your dog anything out of the normal. If your Aunt is giving her dog coffee, what be the piont of it? to keep her dog up? I dont see what make it benifit the dog whatsoever regardeless if its ok or not.

try taking your dog to obedience classes. watch the show the Dog Whisperer he always has some helpful tips.

I don't know why you would give your dog something without consulting the vet first.

STOP FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE!!! call your vet and ask what to do and also ask if dog obedience classes would help the dog calm down. sometimes too if people are under alot of stress or you don't have a lot of time to spend with the dog, they act out. they have feelings too.

You need to give your dog plenty of exercise and then some, she needs a outlet for all that energy. A fenced in yard is not enough, take her for plenty walks, a tired dog is a well behaved dog. Enroll her in a class give her a job maybe agility or something. But please try these other things befor you give her drugs to calm her down.
Its all about responsible pet ownership.

Give the dog some bendril. It's safe, and I have had so many vets recommend it for sedating dogs. If it's a small dog, give it half or a quarter. If it's a larger dog, give it half or a full one. Always check with your vet first, though, for dosages!

I think you should let the dog be, if you play with it all the time, it will eventually get tired and calm down, dont give your dog a pill just to calm its hyperness down, its like your killing your dog, because you dont have to see it run around all the time, but it is a dog, it is supposed to. They are meant to be played with, have fun, take up your time. They need there time with there owner or eventually they might run away, and you can't have that. You never know what could happen then. So be careful, and take time out to play with your cute puppy.

Please don't give Gravol or any other drug without consulting a vet first. There are special drugs for animals that help with certain conditions. Even better, enroll in obedience training. It's fun for you and the dog. The dog will settle down as it gets older.

Unless your boyfriend's mother is a vet or following a vet's directions, that's mean to the pet.

Don't follow their example. Love your dog!
