Our ridgeback/doberman has kennel cough and has been on meds for almost 2 weeks. He still has coughs and snot --mostly in the AM. How long is this suppose to last?
Also after starting different meds last weekend he started having 1 minute episodes of sucking in air - after he sneezes...reverse sneeze. i am wondering if its related to the meds or the cough?

She is 1 1/2 years old, spayed, and is treated like a queen around our house! But she has developed this nasty temperament when friends come around.

I have a German Shepard, but his shedding is out of control. Is there anything I can to do? I know he will still shed, I just want it to be less frequent.

hi my names sparky, and thanks to the NCDL instead of putting me down they at your benefit took me in and made me well again because you see i wasn't looked after and I was abused by my owner. I now have a home even though nothing is known of my past i can be re-homed and trusted around children. Please remember it only costs 20 pounds to put a dog down, 15,000 to look after a dog and 1 pound to save a childs life in Africa.

PS: after you have finished reading this a child will have starved to death. think about that when your dogs getting doggy treats.

I have a 13 week-old female cocker puppy. I've never had a cocker before, and am finding it difficult for her to grasp the concept of potty-training. I do more positive reinforcement than negative, but we're still having a lot of trouble. Is it because she's so young, or is this a common thing in cockers? My labs have always been very easy to train, and really don't have much experience with smaller dogs.

I have a two-year-old Sheltie who has always been protective of me. Ever since she was a puppy, she's been following at my heels. I'm 29 weeks pregnant now and for the past few months, she's been really overprotective -- if we pass someone on the street that she doesn't know and they walk a little too close to me, she'll bark uncontrollably, whereas she would usually just slink past them unnoticed. If someone comes to the door, she barks and jumps at the door and she had never done that before, either. She won't even let anyone hug me anymore! Is it possible she can sense that I'm pregnant?

We recently got a dog from the dogs home, shes a very loving cross-collie, she's very gentle. She was left tied up 2 a lamppost outside, i know it's nasty but we have to pay nearly £80 to leave a dog there so you can understand why some people dump them. The dog is highly trained, very clean and overweight, so we have no reason to believe that she had been badly treated, she loves females and took to me straight away following me everywhere. I had my face riped off by a dog when i was only 10, so i am quite careful with them. The problem is my children are 12+ so we never noticed until a friend visited, she doesn't like small children, if they approach her she growls (with her mouth closed), she tried to get under the table away from them and they followed her, i warned the kids but the parents didn't back me up, cuz of what happened to me i held her collar just in case, but was wondering if i made this worse. the dog snapped a warning. what do i do when we have young visitors, please

My Papillon puppy is 10 mons. old and is a very intelligent little pup. She knows how to take her toys out of her 'toy basket' and bring them to us - but not how to put them back in! I'm sick of picking up after her; is there a way to train her to put the toys away herself?

My friend and I have an ongoing argument. She thinks that it is a cruelty shelter that doesn't walk or give water to the dogs. She also believes that dogs are euthanized their, or put to sleep. Does anyone know if they do or not?

My male Siberian Husky has always been an outside dog. However, he became very sick last week. I took him to the vet and she is still waiting on test results to try to determine what exactly is wrong with him, but she wants him to stay indoors temporarily. He is real weak right now so he isn't wandering all over or getting into anything. I have him in my kitchen with a baby gate in the doorway. But I have no idea when and how often to take him outside to use the bathroom. Is it every hour, every 2 hours, or after he eats or drinks?

I have rescued a couple of dogs, and would like to give them some fun dog toys. I don't have the budget to spend on $6-$12 toys that they tear apart in 15 minutes! Any suggestions? Empty paper towel rolls? Pine cones? Sticks? Empty egg cartons? I know that if they eat ANY toy it isn't good for them. But, what common items could I give them and not worry too much about? Thanks!
