Most dogs are not aggressive. As long as they are treated right and properly trained.

For the most part, they are big babies. That said, I knew one that - although very gentle most of the time - would growl at anyone laying on the floor (child or adult). Because it is seen as a submissive position, the Mastiff would assert its dominance by growling. The dog was only visiting, so we weren't at liberty to do any training; however, there were no more people wanting to lay on the floor to play with the four-legged otherwise sweetheart.

If you mean neapolitan mastiffs, then no. I have two, used to have three. If you raise them right, be the one in control, they are wonderful, gentle, very, very loyal dogs. They have the look of a gargoyle, and scare some people. But the are gentle giants. Not to say my dogs would probably kill to protect me, they do not ever go off without reason.
