i have a 5 yr old female west highland white terrier.
on her back leg, right near where her paw pads start she has a little round, red lump about the size and color of a small berry. anyone have any idea what it is? its been suggested to me that its a cyst but i ve looked up pictures of cysts on the internet and they don't look anything like hers. thanks :)

i just looked at it again and the top bit seems to have formed a scab type thing with lots of black smaller scabs on it and it sort of come up if you pick at it and its attached to the skin underneath <

It does sound like a cyst, may not look like the web pics but may still be forming. Or it's possible she has a splinter or something embedded and it is trying to surface. Best of luck with her and hope she's ok ; )

I would take her to a vet. While it could be something trivial that will go away on its own, it could be more serious. I had a dog growing up who started to get little red lumps. They were pink and red and tended to be a little rough or berry-like. Turned out they were small tumors. She had cancer. Poor puppy was so old that she wasn't eligible for surgery. She lived with the tumors for about 5 years before she died...

I know I speak from limited experience but if you love your puppy as much as I love mine, you can never be too careful!!

Hope it's nothing!!

There are a lot of things that can do that...cyst, splinter, tumor, abcess, licking too much...the best thing you can do for her is get her to the vet asap to have it checked out. DO NOT try to pop it or put anything on it without talking to the vet!!! If it breaks open...call your vet right away (or an emergency vet if yours is unavailable) and see what the recommend if they can't get her in.

Thats a really pretty dog! Maybe your dog got bitten by a bug. Just dab some water on it. Keep an eye on it for about a week and if it gets worse or noting happens take her to the vet. Good luck!

Maybe a boil of some sort. But I think you should see the vet to be sure.
