First things first, be sure to use small sized treats. they should never account for more that 10% of a dogs daily intake. This way you can be repetitious more often without overfeeding. Now, I taught my dog the differance between her left and right paw, and I have used that to teach her to go left or right! This is one of the easiest tricks. hold the treat in front of the dog. Tap the leg you want, gently lift up the paw and say, " Shake", "Paw", or what ever tickels your fancy. Then treat and praise "Good boy/girl!". Do this a few times in a row, then stop. Don't do this again til a few hours later. Dogs get distracted easily and you want all your training to sink in, and all you do needs to be as "flawless" as possible at first so he/she doesn't get confused. after about 2 or 3 days of consistancy, test him/her and see if he/she performs on his/her own. If not just keep working at it. Once he/she is performing on his/her own, and he/she doesn't do it correctly or at all, do not treat, pause a few seconds and start over with the command. Keep repeating until he/she does it correctly. Have Fun and Good Luck!

Super easy. Put the dog in a sit. Kneel down and face your dog and say "shake" at the same time as you take your right hand and lift the dog's paw (carefully - paws are sensitive). Be careful not to squeeze it, just lift it up and shake it. As the dog is doing the shake, give a treat with the other hand. Be sure to give the treat DURING the shake, otherwise it will take longer to train the dog because the reward needs to happen at the time the action is taking place.

Do this five times in a row for five days. When your dog starts to lift his/her paw on his/her own, then you can say "shake" and just open the palm of your hand at dog's knee level and he/she will likely plant it in there.

After the five times session, be sure to finish it up with lots of praise. Learning new stuff MUST be fun for dogs otherwise they won't want to do it and will be super hard to train. So, make it fun for them and don't do it too many times or they will lose interest and it will seem too much like work.

Good luck and have fun!

P.S. Once your dog has mastered "shake," then train it to do "the other one" by moving your hand to the other side of the dog and taking up the other paw while saying "other one." Our dog is so good at this now that she does both shakes before getting the treat automatically. It's very cute.

Have a treat in front of them. Once they shake your hand give them the treat. U might have to first pick up paw to show dog how to shake paw. Also say shake a plaw to the dog to.
