We have a 4 yr old male 90 lb purebred Golden Retriever. I will walk him out to the mailbox and he'll just plop down and refuse to get up! It's not exhaustion, it's stubborness. He'll completely ignore me and just look around and watch the cars go by. I'll say, "Want a treat?" "Wanna go to the park? For a walk?" and he continues to act like I'm not even there. Sometimes he'll sit there for 20 minutes. I try to drag him but he'll just lay flatter and play "dead". Any suggestions?

Help us choose a cute name for our new boy cocker spaniel puppy.
Nothing weird or odd, please.
Something like Humphrey, Brewster, Murphy.
Thanks for your ideas!

I have a weimaraner from a rescue centre who is absolutely gorgeous, he had been castrated previously, we have recently heard that dogs who have had this done tend to scent inside the house as well as outside. We try to stop him when we see him do this, but obviously when we go to bed or go out, no one is there to stop him from doing this. How can we stop him doing this and how do I get the smell of dog urine odour out of the carpet. I have tried Listerine and pet products but nothing seems to work. Any ideas that have worked please, otherwise it looks as if I will need a new carpet. But then the same will happen all over again.

I stopped her from breast feeding today because the pups (almost 7 weeks old) are draining all the calcium from her body. How long before her breast milk dries up?

Normally I have no problems with dogs. Since watching the Dog Whisper series on the National Geographic Channel, I am curious to know if there is a meathod to stop any small non-agressive dogs from barking at me. Like my neighbor's dog for example. The reason why I asked is because I want it to know me better as a good human friend.

Yesterday, I had to rush my 5 year old yorkie to the emergency vet because she couldn't walk (very wobbly and falling over). Her body was very low on calcium. She only weighs about 4 lbs. (her natural weight) and had 4 pups almost 7 weeks ago. The pups are growing rapidly and depleting all the calcium from moms body. I had been trying to find ways to start them on puppy food but they are more interested in breast milk. After yesterdays incident, I don't have a choice. I have had to separate mom from pups (pups are in a crate). They are eating the puppy food, but barely. Is it wrong to separate them this way? Will they be okay? Could they be suffering from separation anxiety?

I dont want to sound inhumane but they hate riding in cars and I dont want to make it worse for them. I was thinking about letting them sleep for the ride and let them wake up when I get to hotels. Would the vet give me tranquilizers?

Yesterday my dogs paw got closed on by someone closing the door and it started crying and crying. Then he went to sleep as he was breathing really hard. Now today he is walking around pretty well with an ocassional limp every now and then but for the most part he is walking fine. Im wondering if I should still take him to the vet but I thought that if it was broken he would not be able to walk on it.

The AKC site is the ONLY place forCORRECT *&* COMPLETE info on the various breeds.
Dogs should NOT be bathed every month, week,DAY!!!

I have seen his answers to numerous questions and it seems to me that though he may(or may not) know alot about dogs, his nasty comments, hateful insults, and just plain put downs make people not even consider that he might know what he is talking about. I personally have written down specific "names" of people on here that are breeders, vet techs, or who own the same breed as I have, because even if their answer turned out to not be the best one, at least I know that those people are honest and not going to be complete jerks in their answers. I, for one, would never take the advice or opinion of GetEmGang for the simple fact that he is a pompous asswipe and I would 10 times rather listen to my neighbors 15 year old son , than to anything that he rants and raves. Most people on here are looking for advice and not for someone to tell them how stupid they are for asking that question and how they shouldn't even own a dog.

This question is relating to dog behavior. I have bred chihuahua's over the last 2 years and have been a qualified AKC breeder for more then 20 years. But I've come accross a behavior I havnt seen before.
I have a small 4 lb Chi female that had whelping problems and lost her last litter of 1 puppy during whelping. I am going to spay her as she is to small. But it's been 3 weeks since the loss and she is beginning to show behaviors related to heat. She has become playful, and is tring to mount the other dogs and is standing, although she wont let a complete mount happen. She doesnt have the phisical signs of heat. Her mounting is common with a heat cycle but I am stumped by this behavior so soon after whelping. I would like to add that I havnt had any whelping problems with other dogs because I bred Dobi's. So I havnt experiance behaviors associated with the loss of a complete litter. I have separated her from the pack none the less. Im looking for chi breeders to help with this Q. TY
