This question is relating to dog behavior. I have bred chihuahua's over the last 2 years and have been a qualified AKC breeder for more then 20 years. But I've come accross a behavior I havnt seen before.
I have a small 4 lb Chi female that had whelping problems and lost her last litter of 1 puppy during whelping. I am going to spay her as she is to small. But it's been 3 weeks since the loss and she is beginning to show behaviors related to heat. She has become playful, and is tring to mount the other dogs and is standing, although she wont let a complete mount happen. She doesnt have the phisical signs of heat. Her mounting is common with a heat cycle but I am stumped by this behavior so soon after whelping. I would like to add that I havnt had any whelping problems with other dogs because I bred Dobi's. So I havnt experiance behaviors associated with the loss of a complete litter. I have separated her from the pack none the less. Im looking for chi breeders to help with this Q. TY

Im not seeing a vet because its a behavior question NOT a phisical question, there is nothing wrong with her. The behavior has stopped but I was curious about the behavior. Chihuahua have they're own set of behaviors and qualities and being a good breeder means asking questions. I wasnt asking because I dont know what to do.... I was asking because im facinated by the many behaviors dog exibit. I am looking for better experianced (Chihuahua breeders) who have seen this behavior in their own dogs.

Some people are so ignorant... How do you think the standard stays as it should or better and are shown. Not by back yard breeders of which I am not. I dont sell my dogs to everyone and I especially dont charge 1200 for something that only resembles a Chi. I dont make any money at it. It barely covers the care of my dogs. That said, Vets cant give me the low down on Chihuahua behavior unless they breed them. get it? My vet is a good dr. but he is not a breeder and doesnt spend anytime observing, playing or training with them. That is what Im looking for. Im not a total dummy. I do have many years in back ground and behavior just not with these.

Her hormones were all set for having and raising a litter..they are just all out of whack now..so her behaviors are confused..It is not related to her breed, but the hormones rage, and cause confusion and connfused actions, in all females that have lost a litter.

I am a Chihuahua breeder, but I have never had a chi come back in heat so soon after having pups, even if she lost the pups. I have had them come back in heat in about 2 months and it drives me crazy. It is probably just a reaction to her losing her pups, more mental than anything.

Hello,
Mounting behavior is not always because of heat. Often mounting behavior is strictly related to social, and dominance issues.
Spaying will also reduce the incidence of mammary tumors in her future.
Hope this helps.

I believe it is a hormoneal issue, I breed as well. A Vet can not help you with this one, She is confused and the only thing that will help her is to get her spayed.

its not a breeder you should be looking to for help, it is a qualified veterinarian.. As for heat issues and spaying, you are showing your incompetance in breeding and lack of caring by asking in a non professional setting.

And you stupid dog, if you keep trying to mount the male dogs from behind I'm gonna have to glue your puny **** feet to the ground so them males you keep trying to buttchuck can do what they gots to do...biatch..."
