Poodles, Maltieses, or a mix are good they never shed. They are very smart and love being around people. I have two maltise poodles and had a poodle all of them very lovable and extremely smart. Also they come in different sizes like tea cup, miniature, and etc.

There are dozens of breeds that would be good with small children. It mainly depends on the amount of time you put into the dog, how much training you do, how your kids treat the dog, etc. Find several breeds you like and research them, talk to people who have them. When you find a breeder, take your kids with you to see the dogs - that'll give you a good idea.

By the way, beagles don't bark any more than any other dog if trained at all. Any dog you get will still have to be walked every day regardless of the size of yard you have. If you want a dog to go running with you, you should stay away from the small breeds - they can't keep up.

I currently have a puddle and its the best dog you can get. they are smart which makes them easy to train. The are also great inside and outside dogs. they dont shed and can have short hair in the summer and then they can grow there hair out during winter. and for the whole biting thing its completly untrue. my dog has never bit anybody. another good trait that they have is that they are great lap dogs but they love to run in the grass. plus they also come in a large range on sizes
---hope this helped

English Cocker Spaniel all the way. Not as much hair as the "American" Cocker Spaniel. VERY loving dogs...friendly to everyone...and full of personality....without the size issues of the otherwise terrific labs and goldens. You will find them very smart and eager to please. (Warning - Once you have one, you will never want anything else!)
