I dunno about running faster than any dog- greyhounds are bred for their speed... you ever been to or seen a dog race??!? HOLY COW!!
Anyway, I have two mutts-
Shela is an Australian Shepherd/Lab mix. She's 3 yrs old, only 30 pounds... yeah, I think she's done growing! She's very smart- knows the basics- Come, Sit, Lay, Kennel.. Also knows Shake, Potty, Get Mommy/Daddy, Bang, Dance....
Tess is also an Australian Shepherd mix, but we don't know what else is in the mix. She's 1, and just over 30 pounds. She's very affectionate. She also knows the basics- Come, Sit, Lay, Kennel, Potty. She's learning Get Mommy/Daddy, Bang, Shake...
When they play together it's usually a game of Bowling for Tes... Shela will egg Tes, and Tes will take off... then Shela will start racing- head down, stretching out- she'll catch Tes, and they'll wrestle and roll around, teeth on necks or legs, or wherever they can get a grip...

I have a collie also and a lhasa opsa and a norwich terrier. All 3 are speedy, but the collie is faster because he can take bigger steps.

I have two Italian Greyhounds... If I can borrow one of their lure coursing friends do you want to race them? ;-) Their friend had more than 70 wins in oval track before he retired and is a purebred greyhound.
IG's are 15" tall and weigh 10lbs... I would guess they can outrun your collie, but I'll only bet if I can take their full-size friend... not because I don't think they're faster, but because they're... distractable ;-)

I have a Great Dane. He is a bona fide couch potato except for his twice-a-day zoomies. My other dog is a German Shepherd. She is the opposite of the Great Dane. She is hyper all the time, and I am lucky if she has two naps a day.
