Clean it up right after he goes. Some dogs have this habit and this is the only way to stop it. Some people say it is because they are missing something in their diet and that is why they do it, wrong. There are powders that you can buy that are suppose to make them stop, but we have only seen it make them throw up and then want to eat that too. Good luck.

I was told that it was because the animal is hungry. And for our dog, this seemed to be the correct answer. We really weren't feeding her enough. We now feed her about 1-1/2 cups of dry food twice a day---she is about 64# and a black lab. She stopped doing this once we started feeding her a little more.

My nephew had a chihuahua who did that. The vet recommended hot sauce on his stools, which he said would dissuade the dog from doing that. They ultimately found out he was doing it for attention as he was unhappy in their household. They are in their 20's and he was bought from a breeder in her late 60's. They gave the dog to her grandmother's sister, and the dog stopped eating the poop.

He can get very sick from it. I had to have a puppy put down because he got so sick from it. I can't think of the name of the disease. Maybe someone else will know that. But definitely find a way to stop him from doing this.

It's very common for dogs to do that. There are a couple things you can do to stop it...you can pick it up as soon as he goes and the pet stores have supplements, etc designed to stop the behavior.

Your dog smells the dog food in his poop. It's not unnatural but you can stop him from eating his poop by sprinkling meat tenderizer on his food before he eats. It causes the poop to become really bitter and he won't want to eat it anymore. This worked for me.

Don't taste the poop!! I can tell you, it's bitter and nasty. I had some under my fingernail once that apparently I missed after cleaning up after puppies, later was concentrating on something and put my finger in my mouth, you know how you do ?? I think it was my pinky finger.

When my dog was a puppy, she used to do that to. I took her to the vet and he said it was because she saw me picking it up (with a dog bag) so she decided to help out. Poo is very nutritious, and maybe it tastes better than it smells, who knows? The vet gave me this stuff that you sprinkle on its food that makes its poop taste bad (WTF?! I know) and she hasn't eaten any since.

Dogs for some reason will do that. You can go to petsmart, tell them your problem and they will show you what you can give him. My dog did this, gave him the pills everyday and he stopped.
