Why buying puppies from pet stores is deplorable:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/08/15/national/main1897821.shtml

A trailer carrying dozens of puppies to Northeast pet stores caught fire just off an interstate, killing all of the estimated 60 dogs inside, authorities said.

The puppies were a variety of breeds between the ages of 8 and 12 weeks, according to a state police news release.

A preliminary investigation indicated that a malfunctioning fan in the rear of the trailer may have started the fire, police said. No charges have been filed.

The truck was owned by the Hunte Corp. of Goodman, Mo., a major puppy supplier for pet stores.
-------

8 to 12 week old puppies, shipped in bulk in semi trailers from Missouri to Massachussets, like boxes of cereal or stuffed animals.

At least livestock trailers have windows.

How can people buy puppies from pet stores, encouraging and financing this sort of treatment?

That's a crock of ****... Hunte doesn't ship 8 week old puppies, they ship around 6 weeks... And they anticipate 15% casualties during shipping...

Hunte is the worst of the worst when it comes to puppy milling or brokering (hunte is a broker, not a breeder... they are the middle man between the puppy mill and the pet store)

Kiddo,
This speaks volumes, people want to buy anmals like cereal. There are so many animals who are left on the side of the road. I got two Labs one chocolate and one black.....They had been stolen from a breeder and we found that out after we had them a year. the rescue called us and said the breeders wanted to give us their papers...The breeders were so happy to see them in a loving home. They are sisters. We got them from a dog rescue and I think they know how much more we love those two squirrels....the Chocolate is a premium hunting dog. the Black is scared of thunder and the 4th of July. She hides in the bathtub.

So to finalize. take the time to seek out the abandoned pups. they'll love you 10 times more, I promise. then the stores will stop selling them, Supply & demand.

I felt sorry for those puppies. I would never buy from a pet store. pet stores double the price of the puppy. And then how many of the puppies would have ended up at the pound because they were not compatible with their owners.

is another good informative site as to why its wrong to buy from pet stores...

you pay too much for low quality pets

a good breeder wouldnt need to hide behind a pet store
a good breeder would want to see who is buying their pups
a good owner would NEVER buy from a pet store -they would adopt or get from a reputable breeder only

problem is too many people are stupid and think they are "rescuing" from pet stores rather than realizing they are condeming other dogs to suffer..

those puppies died from smoke but their parents are still alive being kept in tiny cages stacked ontop of one and other breeding litter after litter.. never knowing how grass feels on their paws....

that is so sad. I don't understand why someone would buy from pet shop. I wouldn't even buy a rabbit from one. Go to a good breeder. Most likely will pay less, too, for better quality

That was a REAL TRAGEDY.Those poor puppies surely came from puppy mills. To stop this everyone should get their dogs from the humane society or rescue groups. There are thousands of GREAT DOGS out there wanting to be adopted.I've adopted all of my dogs from shelters.
