Would it be okay to put a beagle on a 40 foot tie down assuming he had an adequate amount of exercise and a doghouse?

You would be required to pass a test on:
- Health care/feeding
- Training techniques
- When to visit the vet

If you didn't pass the first time, a short course of some kind (maybe distance ed to make it available for all) would be required.

And maybe be required to foster a dog for 1 month minimum to show you are capable of caring for it.

It would eliminate all the people who get dogs just for some spontaneous thing to do, but aren't really committed. It would better prepare people. And the proceeds from paying for the license could be given to the humane societies.

I like the idea!!

I'd like a dog I could run 3-5 miles with, and also would not mind being indoors during weekdays. I'd exercise it in the mornings and evenings.

...and have puppy contracts.

I have been interviewing a man interested in my puppies. He has passed all of my requirements so far, though we still have to see if he bonds well with the puppy he wants. (If not, he said he'd happily wait for another litter.) He is a natural with my dogs and has been living with my breed (Boston Terriers) for most of his life. His references are staggering, & all of them checked out and had wonderful things to say about him.

Now, the question... Would any of you hesitate because he is in his 80s? What *extra* measures, if any, would you take to be sure that the puppy came back to you or an approved family member if this kind gentleman passes away or enters a care facility during the life of the puppy? (I do have the standard clause in my contract. Will that be enough, legally?)

I know that there is this risk with any client, no matter the age, but I was curious if any of you would handle it differently.

I mean, can they really tell one person from another? Do they remember people, or are we all just big bags of food to them?

My Beagle suddenly resists walking and won't eat or drink out of his bowls unless I hand feed him and fill a mug with water and put it near his mouth. He used to eat/drink/walk normally. I don't want that to become a habit, but he just won't eat/drink unless I hand feed him! What can I do to break these habits?

I have a 40lb 7 month old female Bassett Hound. We recently put her in a fenced in yard and she digs into the black dirt to find cool spots. I have noticed that her ears are now filled with black dust and dirt from her laying in the dirt holes that she digs. I am not sure the best way to get her ears cleaned like they should be.

From rabbits, dogs, horses, to cows etc., he wants to get in a fight.
He is neutered and has basic obedience training (3 trainers, one behaviorist), but can't be loose around any other animal. I know if I could get him to the dog whisperer he could help him, but that's not possible since I live in central Pa.. He is 21/2 yrs old ,79lbs, and is living on borrowed time. HELP,HELP, HELP.

PLEASE READ EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU ANSWER!!!!

My dog walks in circles only to his right, he at times is a little wobley on his feet, he drinks as much water as you will let him, and he urinates a lot and he doesn't care where he will urinate in his bed, also just recently his urine has been dark in color?

We have limited the amount he drinks (vets suggestion) to 1/2 a cup of water twice a day and he still urinates a lot we have to take him out every 2 hours to keep him from going in the house he will even go in his crate and for this reason we are afraid to go anywhere because we don't want him to mess while we are gone.

We have only had him for 2 weeks and he is 5 months old. We did get him from a petstore (my husband didn't like any at the animal shelters and fell in love with this one). He had lived at the pet store for close to 3 months.

The vet gave us a major scare this morning when we took him in to be fixed. They called and said they thought it was his liver chunt.

I recently noticed my 1 y/o German Shepherd Puppy has really dry skin on his elbows and some areas of his belly. He itches it also. Can you suggest something to clear it up? Did you have a similar problem? If so, what was it and how was it cured? Thanks for your help:-)
