My Beagle suddenly resists walking and won't eat or drink out of his bowls unless I hand feed him and fill a mug with water and put it near his mouth. He used to eat/drink/walk normally. I don't want that to become a habit, but he just won't eat/drink unless I hand feed him! What can I do to break these habits?

My Yorkie gets that way too-finicky like a cat. I "started" the problem when he would not eat so I started making a "Game" out of it. I will trail his food around the room and have it lead up to his bowl. Sometimes if he wont eat at all I tell him he better eat or another dog will eat his food. Now he guards it and growls at anybody in his space....I created a damn little freak monster!
My dog is only 6 and I am trying very hard (last 2 weeks) to change this pattern of behavior that I started. I put his food down for 10 min. when the time is up, I remove it. It may take a few days, but your dog will eat. Now as far as the water part. When I think he needs it the most (coming in from outside in 100 temps) he won't drink. So I sometimes put him in the shower with cool water and cool him down.....If your dog is an older dog-it could be a health problem. As you all can see-I am the problem as you probably are too:)

now that's some weirdness, beagles will usually eat until they explode, if you'd let them. i say stop the hand feeding for a day or two, then if he's still not eating or drinking, vet time. maybe a doggy psychiatrist is in order? did something spook him, like a storm or some nearby construction noise? good luck with this situation!!

Your dog might be sick. You should try taking him to the vet. It could be serious. He might have a brain tumor. Thats why most dogs act that way. He could've had a tramatic experience that triggered the behavior also. You could also try calling Cesar Milan. He's a dog expert. He rehabilitates dogs and, "trains" humans. Hope your dog gets well soon. Hope this helped a little.

I would have him checked by the vet to make sure he is not sick. If all is ok, stop hand feeding him. when he gets hungry enough, he will eat out of his dish
