I've never had a cat and I don't know what to do here... I've always had a dog and those are easy to just toss in the tub every once in awhile. Is there something special you have to do with cats when it comes to keeping them clean? Or do you NEVER wash them? Please help!!

Was wondering if there are any alternatives to spaying a female cat and if so, what (if any) the health risks/side effects are?

No need to give answers about unwanted kittens etc etc.
I completely understand the pro-spaying arguments which I agree with however people tend to get a tad evangelical about it and I'm finding it hard to recieve impartial advice re. alternatives.

And yes, if I don't find an alternative I'm happy with I'll get her spayed so please please resist!

We had chicken last night and my roommate stayed up and partied. She and her friends left out chicken bones and my kitten took about 5 chicken bones into the bathroom and devoured them. I heard chicken bones are horrible for dogs and kittens cause they can splitter. My kitten is *mean* but, will he be okay? I noticed the whole top of one of the bones was gone...

I have a dilemma!! I am due to get a new kitten (or two) on Friday. I live in a 2 bedroom flat and these kitten(s) will grow up as indoors cats. I work until 5pm Monday - Friday. Is it best to get 2 kittens, which would be from the same litter (brother & sister), or, do cats prefer to be the only one?

I'm really tired of getting told that I should get my indoor cat spayed to prevent her from getting ovarian cancer. Yes, she goes into heat and she can be annoying, but it's natural and it's a part of her personality.

I believe a cat should only be spayed or neutered (this IS surgery and stressful and painful for the animal) if there's a risk of the cat getting pregnant or breeding with other cats. Overpopulation of stray cats is a problem, but my cat has never been outdoors (without being held onto) and never makes a break for the door when it opens.

I do have a male cat who spent most of his life at my previous home in a large house on a 5-acre lot of land. He frequently went outside and explored, but I had him neutered when he was six months old to prevent any risk of reproduction.

But I keep hearing that there are other benefits associated with spaying a cat, like preventing ovarian cancer or getting a uteral infection.

I've just recently discovered that my cat has fleas. I went out and got a (cat) flea collar and put it on her as soon as we figured out the black specks weren't cat litter, but flea litter! As soon as we put the collar on her, we put her in a single room, and have been using a spray around the rest of the house. I've not had time to do all of the laundry yet (sheets, bedding, etc) But I've sprayed a good deal of it (theres a LOT!) with a spray from the vet for linens and carpeting. We got frontline yesterday and put it on her at about 7pm. When we put the collar on her, we also put a bit of powder along her back (where she cant lick).

My questions:
-When should I let her roam the house again, Shes had the flea collar (and powder) on for 2 days, and frontline for just under a day.
-I've heard head and shoulders will aide in the killing of some of the fleas. Will this cancel the frontline? I'd like to wash her just because she's probably loaded with flea dirt and the flea powder.

I bought a flea killer called Zodiac Spot in the directions it said to move the cats fur and put the entire contents of the little bottle in the one spot and through the movement of the cat and the fur the flea killer would distribute evenly but I have found that after 13 hours his fur is still oily by his neck and it really doesnt seem to have distributed. I know typically you move the med from the neck down the back and it dries in.. I did the same with my dog and his fur is clean an dry but his flea killer was a different brand? Anyone have a similiar experience? I need to know if I should let it go a couple days or if I should bath him and try another brand?

One of my cats went missing 18 months ago. She's just turned up!!

My husband was complaining saying some cat was trying to get in the house. When i had a look it was ours! Can't believe she's come back after all this time. She just walked in as though she's never been away - although she was a bit miffed when she realised her bed had gone from her normal spot!!
Very strange.

13 yr old male indoor tabby who has thrown up 6 times in past two hours, 4 clear, 2 w/dry food, who has been losing weight over past few months, which local vet states wait & see, while he bugging us 24/7 to eat something. Stop can food because of lack of interest by him, went to REAL prepackaged frozen fish 8oz a day (cod, tuna, etc.), still no weight gain and slightly bony on backbone area by tail. Now this... what do we do?

I always wondered how a cat can give birth to multiple kittens and they all look different. There is a stray in the neighborhood that is a grey calico, her kittens are two gray and white, orange and white and a dark calico.

My cat lives outside, and it's generally in an area that has tall grass, bushes and trees. We've found two ticks on him in the last two days, and a few more before that. What is the best thing to use for ticks? I was thinking a collar/Spot-On combination but I'm not sure if that's over-doing it.

My Male fixed cat keeps sitting like he is going to pee or poop on the carpet but just never does like a good kitty hes just going around the house acting like it he always has used the littler box and never the floor I just am not sure why he is doing this....He has done this before for a short time but this time he had been at it for an hour. Then When i picked him up he was testy and meowed like he was uncomfortable..then I saw a red spot on his hiney it was blood. he is calm now lying down cleaning himself and then napping...I will definitely take him in the morning to the vet but any ideas what is causing this should i take it to the 24 vet? Little Nervous about this I couldn't tell where the blood was if it was his hiney or very close to it...I am scared its a tumor or something scary...I am preparing myself...Anyone with any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I have a black 5 month kitten. She is very precious to me. She used to live inside our house, but she got fleas everywhere, so my parents made me put her outside. Well, it got cold here in Houston over the weekend, and I'm afraid it will stay that way since it is turning winter.

Do you know how cats take the cold weather? How much of it do they feel?

Thanks.

right above my cats right ear, still on the skull though, is what appears to be a puncture.

it happened about a day ago, and we first noticed because he seemed to smell badly.

he has since lost hair around the wound, and it pusses profusely.

he, also has a similar, but much smaller one, directly below it [[about two centimeters below]]

his behavior has changed from hyper, rowdy, and over all playful, to a mellow, almost apathetic attitude.

is there anything that can be done?

besides taking him to a vet?
