We had this same problem. The vet told us to bind the mother so the kitten could not nurse anymore. I have, believe it or not, several pairs of leg warmers still from the 80's??
I slipped one on her and then bandaged her, being careful not to get too tight but also not to allow the baby to be able to sneak a ninny out...LOL. We did this for 2 weeks and her milk dried up. We got her fixed and the nursing bit was over.

My kittens kept nursing for a really long time - months! At first the mom was skinny and looking bad, too. We started to feed her kitten food. After a while she started to gain weight. She also pushed the kittens off more and more as they got older. After quite a while she got really fat, so we had to switch her gradually to adult cat food. She's very healthy now, but still fat. The kittens are about 7 months. Check with your vet, but I think it's normal for her to be skinny right now. Personally, I would not separate them yet. The baby has a lot to learn from mom. We separated ours for a week, but they still nursed when they were put back together.

Separate them. No matter how much the kitten cries, refuse to put him with his mother. Kittens of 8 weeks should start eating solid kitty food.

I think for the sake of the mother you need to separate them. Just for a few days, until he gets out of the habit of nursing.

In the future, please remember that kittens should stay with their mother until they are at LEAST 10 weeks old. Even if they are not nursing, the mom teaches them things they need to know -- they will be far better adjusted if they stay with her long enough.

I hope Mom gets better.

You will have to seperate them or just leave the kitten alone. Mommy will wean her. I had a stray litter and kept mommy cause she was to evil for anybody to want her and I kept the last kitten for company. She weaned her own her own.......

that's a user-friendly cat habit. My cats all do it. often times this is brought about via early seperation from mom, yet no longer consistently--considered one of my cats became into along with his mom till he became into 6months previous and he nonetheless does this! he's 6 now. yet another cat might nurse the bathing room rug and made smacking/slurping noises as though she have been rather ingesting! That became into humorous, yet we had to circulate the rug on account that we did no longer want her to get any chemical substances that would have dripped on it from cleansing the lavatory/bathtub... Your cat would or would possibly no longer advance out of this kneeding habit. that's a manner of bonding with you. i do no longer comprehend in case you will desire to truly attempt to magnificent it, possibly only wait and notice in the event that they advance out of it on their very own, and shop their nails properly trimmed till then! If it rather bothers you that lots, you are able to try puhing them off of you and asserting "No" firmly each and every time they do it. Then they're going to learn that kneeding basically stops and interest they have been receiving. terrific needs!

Feed Mom lots, she will wean him when it's time. Trust me on that. They know what they are doing and will do it just fine without our interference
