We had chicken last night and my roommate stayed up and partied. She and her friends left out chicken bones and my kitten took about 5 chicken bones into the bathroom and devoured them. I heard chicken bones are horrible for dogs and kittens cause they can splitter. My kitten is *mean* but, will he be okay? I noticed the whole top of one of the bones was gone...

That flattened top -- the epiphysis --of breast bones in well-cooked chicken is delicious and especially when cooked, tends to be somewhat friable. It can be chewed and does not splinterat all or as dangerously. This is the growth point of the bone, and tends to be softer. What you don't want your kitten eating, and what splinters, is the diaphysis or shaft of the bone -- the mature bone.

It is not a good thing that the kitten got into the chicken bones, and you should keep a little eye on him for sluggishness or "off" behavior. But if he just ate the end of a bone, he probably will be all right.

Keep a close eye on the cat, the bones can splinter and tear the stomach lining or worse. If kitty acts sluggish or refuses to eat, call a vet immediately. The bones should pass through within 48 hours.

Cooked bones can splinter. It'll also make the poop really hard to get out (and it sometimes comes out whitish). Watch the kitten to make sure there's no problem. If there is, get him in to the vets and tell them what he ate.

Usually kittens would choke on the bones, I've seen two cases where they lodged sideways. He's very lucky he got them down.

My grandmother's cat choked on a chicken bone and died. They aren't good for your cat at all for precisely the reason you indicated.

I would take your kitten to the vet or at least call for advice.

I've always fed my pets chicken bones. I've never heard about this splintering business.

I have 3 cats, all over 10 years of age, and all healthy.
