My cat lives outside, and it's generally in an area that has tall grass, bushes and trees. We've found two ticks on him in the last two days, and a few more before that. What is the best thing to use for ticks? I was thinking a collar/Spot-On combination but I'm not sure if that's over-doing it.

Also, something that isn't extremely expensive.

Haha, thanks for worrying about it, but we have a dog, three other cats and a rabbit that all live outside at night. The only road we live close to is a driveway that cars rarely go by on.

Hi Laura...generally, although not inexpensive, Frontline Plus is the best at erradicating ticks and fleas on cats. http://www.1800petmeds.com/cat.asp?LV=50

Most over the counter remedies typically are unable to combat ticks and fleas as well as Frontline Plus. Therefore, you may end up spending more to find something rather than paying one time to have it work well for your cats.

first of all no one should let their cat live outside. If your gonna have one, why not keep him or her inside? Use revolution, thats the best, but it dont help much if they are staying outside. Thats cruel, I think.
