My Male fixed cat keeps sitting like he is going to pee or poop on the carpet but just never does like a good kitty hes just going around the house acting like it he always has used the littler box and never the floor I just am not sure why he is doing this....He has done this before for a short time but this time he had been at it for an hour. Then When i picked him up he was testy and meowed like he was uncomfortable..then I saw a red spot on his hiney it was blood. he is calm now lying down cleaning himself and then napping...I will definitely take him in the morning to the vet but any ideas what is causing this should i take it to the 24 vet? Little Nervous about this I couldn't tell where the blood was if it was his hiney or very close to it...I am scared its a tumor or something scary...I am preparing myself...Anyone with any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Thanks again everyone for your help...I really wish I could have avoided the 24 hour Vet it was so much money. But I could not wait He is my son and its been just me and him for years I had to make sure he was ok I love him. But most of your are right it was an abstruction and needed to go in. I may have probably could have waited till morning but I could not chance it. I had to open up a care credit account I will be making payments the next 3 years but I do not care. I hope he will come home soon so i can snuggle with him. Thanks!!

Hi there...it appears your cat may have a lower urinary tract disorder (UTI) . Left untreated these can become life-threatening, therefore seeing the veterinarian as soon as possible would be advisable.
UTI or known as FLUTD: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=1&articleid=214

NO 24 HR VET!!! If the problem persists where kitty does not look like he can bare it any more, then take him. They are soooo ridiculously overpriced. Kind of punishing us for our love for our children.
My kitty had a very similar symptom except he did suddenly urinate on my carpet. If it has happened before, you should be fine to wait it out until morning. Cat's bodies are very similar to ours. He could just be having a hard time digesting all the carbs in his cat food. If he is on an all Dry food diet this will happen. Laxitone is a hairball paste that helps them digest as well. Let us know what happens tomorrow. Good luck

Daisy, Don't assume the very worst like this. Most likely it is not something terrible! If your cat has long hair he could have a "fecal impaction" where fur gets matted and makes it hard to go poo.
If he has a hair ball maybe he's got an obstruction in his bowel and fecal matter is blocking him up inside.
I'm just guessing on this from past pet experiences. But, he should be ok until tommorrow and you get into the vet.
Hang in there, I know it's scary when you are worried about your pet!
edit: I never had a male, so I may but full of it and not know what is going on. If you can afford to then maybe it would be best to go on in .... Check his tummy, if it is rigid or tight and he is uncomfortable, maybe it is one of those things the other people wrote in about!!!!

RUN to the vet!
NOW!
If he's been straining to pee and nothing is coming out, he's in bad trouble.
Male cats get blocked. That means the "tubes" that lead from his bladder to the outside of his body are clogged. Either with some debris of some sort or they are swollen shut by infection.
Either way, his bladder is filling and can't empty. The bladder can burst just like a water balloon. This is BAD NEWS!!
He could be dead in less than 12 hours.
RUN TO THE EMERGENCY VET!!!

Yeah, definitely sounds like a UTI. Don't worry too much, the vet will give him some antibiotics and he'll be back to normal before you know it. :) My cat kept getting them until I started feeding him Purina urinary tract health formula, so I recommend giving that a try. Hope your kitty gets well soon! :)

24 hr Vet now or he may die. He could have an inverted bowel that will kill him in just a matter of hours. Just lost one this way. Cloe took about 4 hours to die because I could not get a hold of an emergency vet.
:((((.

It could be a bladder or kidney infection, which, in cats can get serious very quickly. I would take him in to see your vet first thing in the morning, they shold be able to run a few tests and tell you pretty quickly if that is what it is. A great thing for kitty is the waterer that looks kind of like fountain like this one http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4087824 It promotes more drinking and keeps his water fresh longer and keeps it cooler, which cats really like! Good luck!

to the 24 hour vet now! Sounds like he is 'blocked' in his urine tract and needs medical attention soon.
Cats that act like this can die in less than 12 hours....
