If you really want to help him and you have the means, try to take him to the vets and have him looked at. If he's had a cold this long, it's probably something more serious. To me, it sounds like he has some symptoms associated with respiratory disease. Is he friendly? Do you have room in your home for a pet of your own? If this is the case, why not get him some help and add him to your family?

Also, have you ever seen him fighting with other cats? Cats can get feline aids. It can be passed by blood contact. They can also get feline leukemia which is passed through contact with saliva.

There is a virus (I don't remember what it's called) that can stay resident in a cat for a long time. The cat will be given antibiotics, seem to get better and then get sick again. In the meantime, all cats that come in contact with him can be infected. This cat needs to be treated aggressively on a long-term basis and maybe he'll get better. But maybe not. If he will let you, it might be a good idea to check his teeth, too.

I got a cat from another breeder and this cat had to be kept isolated for more than a year, sneezing all over the place and taking antibiotics, with the same cycle -- better, worse, better, worse. He was a sweet kitty but we ended up returning him to his previous owner after spending a lot of money to no avail.

I just brought home a cat from a rescue and my dog got it but not my cat, the vet said there isn't anything he can give the dog that she will get rid of it on her own. She is just sneezing and has a really runny nose (clear liquid though). They said if there is color to the runny nose or to eye discharge then it's not good. Hope this helps.

SOMETIMES a "foul" mouth odor is caused by a "liver problem". Have you had a blood test taken, to see what else could be wrong, besides the flu/cold (which COULD be allergies!)? Good luck...............
