my friend and her cat are staying with me. her cat is always scratching my things. her cat always scratches my door at night to try to enter. to prevent this,i have tried yelling at him, spraying him with water from a spray bottle(her idea), putting him in his cat carrier and i have spanked him. my friend says i am abusive to animals and she will never forgive me for hitting her cat. she says she heard me hit him and it was hard. i said she should have been controling her cat, however she left it up to me to deal with it. on the 3rd night of dealing with this problem, i spanked him. was i wrong to spank her cat? was she wrong to not do anything and leave it up to me? our friendship has suffered as a result. please reply with yall's opinion

just for a short time when i go out?....I'm a bit worried that the pup (a jack russel) will get over excited and maul her....I've been on pins since i got the kitten as she's so tiny and frail in comparision to the boisterous pup, and worried sick my dog will hurt her when he's playing....I wanted to get the two together whilst they are young, so they can grow up together but am wondering if i did the right thing...the poor kittens terrified.....Any tips or advice to reassure me? Thanks......

We're going away for a few days for the holidays and have asked the upstairs neighbors to look after our cat. This would require coming once a day and changing her water and giving her fresh food. We don't know them that well, only just met them a few months ago and I'd like to thank them with something. Do you think money or cookies and/or other holiday goodies are appropriate? I've already said I would make some food for various parties so it wouldn't take much effort to do some more.... and if you think money, then how much per day? (they are grown and married, and have cats of their own if that changes anything...)

I adopted a cat from my local humane society last week. They offer a free vet check up within 10 days at most local vets.

My cat needed her rabies shot, and she also got her PCRCC shot (not too sure what this shot was). Anyways, for just the two shots (the check-up itself was free) the vet charged be $99 CDN (approx. $85 US). I was shocked! Does that sound right???

My other question is that since my cat got the shots, she's been doing nothing but sleeping. It's been about 24 hours now. Is that normal?

Thanks for your help!

We have had our cat for four years and a friend of ours found himl in the wild, we pretty much trained him to use the bathroom from scratch. If you have any advice feel free to tell it!

I've done further 'testing' of the tail area. She (12 yr old -indoor cat) is extremely sensitive when I touch anywhere near her butt. She continues to clean that area. And it isn't in the anus area that is seen when a cat walks....at least there's nothing there inflamed or that looks like an abcess. It seems to be in (toward the tummy) from the anus and I'm unable to see what it might be as she gets upset and swats at me. I sense there's a sore she's trying to heal. Her behavior is good; active. Eating and drinking water, and will play when provoked. Her stool and litter box habit/s seem fine. I'm on watch and will take her to the vet next week if this continues. Thanks for your input!!

I feed my cats well and they are very sweet but the one always gets on the counter and gets into the food and I have tried so many things that I am ready to get rid of her and keep the other. This has been going on for months and I am frustrated not to mention how do I know when she has or has not gotten into food for cleanliness reasons, I do not eat after my cat. This is costing me alot more than just frustration, Please Help

My cat is about 5 years old and she's fixed. I noticed today that she was meowing a lot, which it sounds like a cat in heat. Because she's fixed I know it's nothing like that, but I noticed she was in the litter box 3 times in about 7 minutes shaking her tail and moving her backend as if she was trying to work something out, but she didn't pee or poop or anything. She also has been hissing while no one is around her. Does anyone have any ideas of what could be wrong.

Her cat has severe nasal blockage and when it gets too bad she sneezes out huge amounts of mucus, dark green in color, just like when a person has an upper respiratory invection.

Any ideas on how to give my cat his antibiotics... we are all scarred where he has scratched us..he will not eat it in his food, he spots it!! We cuddle him in a towel so he cant scratch us but he spits it out. I cant shove it in his mouth far enough.. problem is he has not had these tablets and he needs them!!

my cat goes crazy running around the house but she won't play with her toys. she keeps stealing food and waking me up in the middle of the night crying or trying to find food. She is having plenty of food but seems to be hungry all the time.

Hi,
I have a male tabby 10 years old who has had problems urinating. I have taken him to the vet twice now and there are no crystals, no blockages, no stones, no bacteria or infection. The last time I took him, we left with no treatments... and I just saw him straining to go again (been a week since I have taken him). I have read through all of the information I can find on this, and am not coming up with much. Since he doesn't have the crystals or stones, changing his diet I guess won't help much... are there any home remedies that can help him? I know people with this problem can drink cranberry juice every day, etc. is there anything like this for cats? It makes me sad to see him straining like he is and I'm thinking that it must hurt or feel uncomfortable. It seems like there aren't any options though at this point, unless I am missing something. Can someone help?
