My cat's tail had to be amputated. One of the the younger kids (by accident) closed the sliding glass door before the cat made it in.

If they tail is truly broken and it is pretty close to the body or tail head and the cat cannot move it, it should be amputated to prevent further damage, death of the tail and to alleviate pain associated with the fracture. A veterinarian will be able to assess the cat and determine the best treatment necessary.

I had this happen to a cat at my son's birthday party. A little girl was trying to "catch" him and when he tried to hide under the deck, the little girl grabbed his tail and tried to pull him out. I took him to the vet and they said that he had to be neutered and also have his tail amputated. When the tail was pulled, it damaged his reproductive organs and also caused him to not be able to move his tail. This would have caused many problems, including a real mess when he needed to visit the littler box. I would recommend taking your cat to the vet as soon as possible. Not only is this painful for the cat, it can end up costing more money the longer you wait.

All of the cat's tail is part of its spinal cord and therefore an integral part of its body. Damage is painful and needs to be assessed by a veterinarian. Please get the cat in first thing Monday morning. The cat is in pain and needs help.
Please do not give the cat any human medication as it can severly damage his liver and could even cause death. If you are concerned about that then go to an emergency vet right now and they will give the appropriate medication.

Please take the cat to the vet right away. An infection could start in the tail and go right up to the spine. I had a beautiful cat that had to have his tail amputated. (He was a stray) Best pet we ever had! It made him even prettier, and somewhat unique. He lived to be 20.

You need to take the cat to a vet. They can put a splint to keep it stable while it heals. A cats tail is very fragile, and it needs to heal right.

I did one time. It should eventually heal on its own although it may be crooked for the rest of its life. My cat was fine with a crooked tail...it was actually really cute!
