I've done further 'testing' of the tail area. She (12 yr old -indoor cat) is extremely sensitive when I touch anywhere near her butt. She continues to clean that area. And it isn't in the anus area that is seen when a cat walks....at least there's nothing there inflamed or that looks like an abcess. It seems to be in (toward the tummy) from the anus and I'm unable to see what it might be as she gets upset and swats at me. I sense there's a sore she's trying to heal. Her behavior is good; active. Eating and drinking water, and will play when provoked. Her stool and litter box habit/s seem fine. I'm on watch and will take her to the vet next week if this continues. Thanks for your input!!

I thought I was the only owner to have a cat with this issue. My beloved Mama Cass, now gone for a year, had that same sensitivity at the base of her tail. Her vet suggested that she may have had a nerve directly under the skin that is normally covered by bone. She would do repetitive movements with her head when that area was touched. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I also have a rapid question, my cat often doesn t concepts getting scratched the place the tail meets the hips, like maximum cats she would be in a position to advance her butt interior the air asking to be scratched some greater. Now she growls at me somewhat as quickly as I do this. She hasn t pooped for terribly almost 2 days now. What I m questioning is that if a cat is constipated might they growl if scratched on the backside of the back and tail?
