Revolution is the brand that we've used in recent years, and there hasn't been a sign of a flea or tick on our dogs. It's also a heartworm preventative, and it takes care of internal parasites, as well.
We recently moved, and the new vet says that the cat formula of Revolution is great, too. Like I said, we haven't had a problem with pests on the dog or in the house since we started with the product.

Like they said, Frontline or Advantage. Both work by making the fleas sterile so that they can't reproduce and Frontline has additional products to use in the case of severe infestation and to kill adult fleas as well as interrupt the lifecycle. You empty a pipette onto the nape of the pet's neck and that's it. The idea is that all the fleas will migrate over the area in 24 hours.
If you have more than one cat, keep them apart for a few hours or they may lick it off each other.
Only thing...also check out the product information for the age of the animal...they may have different concentrations for kittens or pups or you may not be able to use it safely for animals this young (i think they need to be 8 weeks and at that point, you probably need a vet's advice.
It is very expensive to buy from a vet, but you can buy it on the web more inexpensively...we treat our cats every spring and through the summer...even though they are indoor cats, they have gotten fleas we have brought in on our clothes that are in the soil because of neighbour cats.
Finally, if this is the situation, there are nematodes you can buy on the web too that you spray on your lawn that will get rid of the fleas. Needless to say, you can't use insecticides in this area or that will kill the beneficial insects too.

Flea baths don't really work- most cats don't take well to being bathed, and the chemicals in many flea shampoos can be very toxic to cats. Frontline Plus, available from your veterinarian, is the best thing to use if your cats have fleas, or as a preventative. It is a topical that is applied between the shoulder blades, and lasts for a month.

We usually recommend either advantage or frontline for cats. It's is in no way toxic to your pet even if it is ingested. Also over the counter products like hartz can cause some pet to have severe reactions and usually don't work very well. Just make sure you get the product for cats and not a dog kind.

My cat likes to sneak out of the house when we open the door and we don't realize she's not in the house until a couple of hours later. Soon after, we realize she's gotten fleas, but a single treatment of Advantage gets rid of them. Make sure you get the kind for cats and not dogs. (One vial was $18 from my vet. Four vials was $44 from 1800petmeds.com.)

What i exploit on my cats is Apple cider vinegar. 50% vinegar and 50% water in a sprig bottle. I commence on the neck and artwork my way down the body. Then use a moist fabric or your fingers and rub the vinegar right down to their dermis. that is declared that cats hate the scent and could run from it. My cats like it. so a techniques because the residing house you want to hoover alot, I advise alot. the storage only spray the vinegar one hundred% on the floor and around the storage. If the basement is floor and no carpet do a similar element. good luck!

Get a vet-recommended brand. Make sure you do not buy one from your local supermarket, I've heard horrible stories about cats having seizures and needing to be euthanized after being given supermarket-treatments.

Don't mess with the store brands, go with a bath in vodka and orange juice...
