I feed my cats well and they are very sweet but the one always gets on the counter and gets into the food and I have tried so many things that I am ready to get rid of her and keep the other. This has been going on for months and I am frustrated not to mention how do I know when she has or has not gotten into food for cleanliness reasons, I do not eat after my cat. This is costing me alot more than just frustration, Please Help

my sister swears that foil on the counter tops works. You don't have to keep it too long, just until they learn that they don't like it.

You can go to a store like WalMart and get Moth Balls. Keep a few in a small bowl on your counter. Cats hate them, because of the smell. Its also great to put in flower beds to keep cats from them as well. Or, you can go with the cheaper solution. Get a rolled up news paper and gently pop the cat. It WILL learn this way. Many people think cats are stupid but the fact is they are just stubborn. And when you are not home take the pop can idea the other poster gave you. Good luck.

You can try a training item called scat mats (try a pet store or PetEdge.com) and place them on the counter so when the cat jumps on the counter, the mat scares them and they get off. You can do the same thing with tin foils, placing pop cans with change in them on the edge of the counter (when they knock them over it scares them), or you can place 2 sided tape on the counter (although this can be expensive). When home, use a water gun or can filled with change to shake at the cat.

Hope that helps!

I'm training my new cat who's 5 years old not to jump on the counter. I'm using a spray bottle of water and I tell him NO. He's getting better.

My mother had the same problem, her solution was to fill a spray bottle up with water, after a few sprays in the face the cat learns that that is a no-no. It is an inexpensive way to train a cat.

The best thing to do is every time you see him on the counter take a spray bottle and spray till he gets off. And if he goes on the counter when your not home set up mouse traps and let them do the work.

Get a more powerful water sprayer-or-put something on the counter that the cat will step on to make noise and scare them off the counter.

i've got heard the double sided tape is incredibly effective. And, gazing my cats whilst they accidently step on a stray piece of something sticky and it sticks to their paw, i'm tremendously particular it's going to artwork. do no longer hit your cat. although we shove our kitties off the tables/counters often. it incredibly is ok to shove them off for it does not harm them, yet do no longer incredibly smack them. and don't grab by using the scruff!! It hurts them whilst they become some months previous. It will become gentle. some cats do discover tin foil very relaxing. i comprehend my kitties like it XD haha in simple terms ascertain once you capture your cat, you do no longer use it incredibly is call. it incredibly is call must be of something of compliment and whilst it hears it, it's going to think of you're calling it. Calling=interest. Get it? utilising 'no' each so often does not carry close a cats interest. have you ever had those situations once you're entering into something and you're purely slightly too intrigued to comprehend somebody is incredibly yelling at you? attempt utilising a pointy 'eh' or shout 'howdy'. It does not would desire to be a be conscious even. Use something that's sharp, annoying, interest grasping. Do something that could get your interest in any situation. wish this facilitates!!

Aluminum foil on the countertops, sprinkle the area lightly with black pepper, Bitterin also works well (It's the active ingredient in those sprays that are supposed to keep cats off of furniture and other things).

squirt them with water every time. when I did that I also made a psssst sound then slowly stoppd the water and now I use just the pssst sound when I see them eyeing the counter and it stops them in their tracks of course what they do when I am not home Ill never know! if the cats are older it may be a set in habit that just might not be worth the fight and prove to be pointless
