Cats - November 2006

I have a cat who recently started growling and he puts his leg up in the air and grooms himself repeatedly on his ... privates. He has never done this before and I'm wondering if this is a sign of an illness like a kidney infection or if he possibly fought with my other cat and got injured there. It's really weird because he just keeps grooming himself there and making weird growling noises. Please if you have any advice I would appreciate it from vets/vet techs or people who have been in the same situation. Our local vet is booked up for 2 months! so I really don't know what to do.

i have 6 cats all rescued..4 were born from mumma cat a stray i took in who was pregnant..3 months ago i got my 4 males neutered they are all a year old as of oct 19th..1 of them was born tiny i named him peanut..he is very skinny and after the neutering his brothers have just blossemed into chubby baby boys..peanut has remained skinny..(pointer to pointer and thumb to thumb in a circle type figure with both hands are the exact width of his tummy!) is this normal? i have a vet appt schedruled for monday but i would like some input right now...he eats great he eats quite a bit actually..behavoiur is fine and normal although he always was a big sleeper..but little play sessions are squezzed into his lifestyle every now and then..now of course with 6 cats in 1 home this obviously causes a bit of stress for all but we all coexsist fine..and we agree to disagree here..we must or it would be 1 hectic household lol!also what could cause this? he does not have tape worms tho..any ideas? thanks

He is getting to be very aggressive. Is this normal? I don't want to get mad at him but he is in the stage that he doesn't know his own strength and he tends to be really rough. He is about 5 weeks old.

So, eliminating the possibility that he's in heat, unloved, or unhealthy, I'm at a loss what to do about my son's extremely whiney cat. Getting rid of him isn't an option either (my son loves him). He even has the loving company of my beloved, affectionate (perfect) male, neutered cat. He's just always been vocal in a way that is REALLY irritating! I'm open to any suggestions!

Yes and the family flavor is ocean whitefish and tuna. Me and my aunt both have cats that will only eat that flavor.

We have a 3-year-old male cat. Unfortunately, my allergies are kicking in and I don't think we'll be able to keep him. I don't want to put him in a shelter; I can't stand the thought of him being in a cage. Is anyone interested?

I have three that showed up at my door one day, very hungry and mostly wild. I've given them a screened-in back patio all to themselves. They use the litter box. They play together, but mostly they seem to sleep on the furniture. I'd say off hand, they are at least over 2 months old. They do not like being touched, but if they are eating, sometimes they will accept being petted for a little bit. I feed them a mix of dry kitten food and canned cat food. They always have clean water. I don't want the expense of taking all three to the vet. I think maybe they miss their mother who never comes around. Any suggestions? Should kittens normally be more active?

I was hoovering this morning in the front room when I had to move the coffee table out of the way. I held the hoover pipe in one hand and reached down to drag the coffee table back when I suddenly heard the hoover engine revving up. I looked at the end of the hose to find my cat's face stuck on the end of it. I quickly turned off the hoover, but now my cat's right eye seems to have swollen up pretty bad. Do you think it will go down, or will I have to take it to the vet?

While I understand giving your baby the occasional treat, I'm appalled at the number of people here who regularly give their cats rice, wheat, or corn based food, or vegetable or dairy. When was the last time any of you saw a lion on the Discovery Channel who was munching on a root?? Cats eat MEAT and nothing else...they are pure carnivore and need the Taurine in meat to live. Filling them with the rest of aforementioned garbage will only lead to long-term health problems. Am I right or what??

I had this stray cat come by everyday, but when I went to let my dog out, the cat got in my house. It does not let me pet it, so I cannot pick it up to place it back outside. It does not want to go back out, instead it is hiding in my basement. What can I do to make her or him go back outside.
