i have 6 cats all rescued..4 were born from mumma cat a stray i took in who was pregnant..3 months ago i got my 4 males neutered they are all a year old as of oct 19th..1 of them was born tiny i named him peanut..he is very skinny and after the neutering his brothers have just blossemed into chubby baby boys..peanut has remained skinny..(pointer to pointer and thumb to thumb in a circle type figure with both hands are the exact width of his tummy!) is this normal? i have a vet appt schedruled for monday but i would like some input right now...he eats great he eats quite a bit actually..behavoiur is fine and normal although he always was a big sleeper..but little play sessions are squezzed into his lifestyle every now and then..now of course with 6 cats in 1 home this obviously causes a bit of stress for all but we all coexsist fine..and we agree to disagree here..we must or it would be 1 hectic household lol!also what could cause this? he does not have tape worms tho..any ideas? thanks

hey hun about your question to the fact that the others may be eating his food..absolutly not! peanut is being fed in my bedroom now with the door closed because his brothers are getting over weight so vet has them on a very strict diet of only 1 cup of dry food per cat so they each have a bowl in every room of the house where they go behind close doors to eat so i can ensure everybody gets their cup of food nobody gets more or less..as for peanut he is being fed 2 cans of wet IAMS cat food a day along with unpasturized milk straight from the cow..in hopes to fatten my poor thin boy up..i just pray for our sake nothing to serious is wrong with him..he use to vomit alot when he was younger but now he vomits once a month if that. please all say a prayer for my baby they all mean the world to me i love them as much as my own 10mo daughter for gosh sakes..i try my darndest to ensure they all get the care they need but as you must understand 6 cats and a baby takes a toll on the purse

Of course without a vet. visit, nobody can be sure. Hopefully it is nothing. Tape worms are not the only worms they can get. There are round worms, others, and also other internal bacteria that could be the cause. Have your vet take a fecal. You can also buy a vitamin for your cat, that to can fatten him right on up. I worked at a shelter with lots of kittys. We had alot come in that were skinny, there would be nothing wrong with the cat, so really the only option we had was to give wet food, baby food (which has lots of protein), or canned tuna, plus a shot of the vitamin. It does work. The vitamin is in a squeezable tube, so you could squeeze some in the mouth, or put a dab on the top of the cats paw. They can't stand for anything to be there, so they end up licking it off. I hope everything turns out to be O.K. with your cat.

Maybe he's just naturally skinny. I have a male & female, that are siblings. Both have been spayed/neutered. My male is fat, my female is really skinny. They are both very active & eat the same food. I just look at it like this, just like human siblings, nothing says they both must be the same size right.

Hmm, with all of those cats, are you sure he's eating his food, and others aren't eating it for him?

If he's eating an not gaining weight, he could have an endocrine problem (like diabetes). The doctor will be able to tell from bloodwork if there is anything like that wrong with him.

If he is just thin, no ribs or anything showing, yes it could be normal, however it sounds as if there is a problem, maybe worms? Vet can probably tell you why he is so thin.

Give your kitty a higher calorie diet. i have had many skinny kittens, and it is normal, especially if he is the runt. As long as he is not having diarrhea or vomiting, give him some cheese, a tiny bit of milk, or some steak....good luck!
