I have a 22 yr old tortoiseshell whose name is Cameo.

Tortoiseshell is not a "breed" but a coat coloring. There are pure-bred Persians with tortoiseshell coats.

I worked at a shelter, and all torti's and calico's are female. To this day I have not seen a male torti or Calico. They can also have a touch me not personality. One minute they want to love the next they want to be left alone. They are a funny breed.

be patient, I am new at this. 99% of all Torties are female. I have one now but have had several over the past 50 years. They are not normal!!! They don't seem to behave like other cats. It has been said, and I think correctly, that Torties are like candy bars, half sweet & half nuts! My not so little Pyewackette is my best friend, 13 years old but still thiinks she is a kitten.

Tortoiseshell isn't a breed, it's a color. There are domestic long hair torties, domestic medium hair torties, and domestic short hair torties. And most are females since the chromosomes needed to produce that color variation makes males pretty rare. Female tri's have XX chromosomes while males tend to have XY (X determines gender while Y determines color). Male tri-colors have an extra chromosome: XXY....and they're usually born sterile.

My tortie is named Kiesha and she is 15.

My sister's evil tortie is Evie and she is about 5.

I read an article about an extremely rare male tortie in England who was mostly red in coloring.

My Priscilla is a tortie (according to the vet tech), and her litter mates are male. I adopted one of her brothers as well her. Elvis is deep grey with a milky white chest and paws and the other two were white with black or grey markings like cows lol. Oh and Priscilla and Elvis are long hair the other two aren't lol strange eh?

OK, so Priscilla and Elvis had twins, and they are both boys. . .and both look exactly like Elvis with only small identifying markers. CuJo is big like Elvis and Kipper is a little smaller like Priscilla who is quite dainty.

Priscilla is Princess of the House lol and the boys and I love her to pieces . . .she's gorgeous . . . a really deep smoky grey with orange-strawberry blonde(?) ripples through her body (like highlights lol) and the same colouring around her eyes and on her paws, almost like she's wearng makeup! Startling green eyes . . .the boys have yellow ones . . .Of course the boys are quite handsome too . . .but neither of the twins got even a touch of the strawberry blonde.

I do go on about my lil furry friends don't I? I probably didn't even answer your question . . .lol . . .oh well

I love my babies so much . . . ; ) I seize every opportunity to gush about them . . .

They're usually female cats, and yes if there's a male he's sterile. I don't have any right now, but my other cats have tortie relatives that found new homes as kittens. :)
I love all my cats very much. :)

I have a female named Sassy who is a Tortieshell. She is Siamese / Persian cross.
Tortieshell is the color not the breed type. It is very very very rare to have a male who's color is Tortieshell,Calico, or Black Orange Tortie.
My girl is 13 years old and doing great
