Hi there...one of the helpful solutions to prevent cats from counter surfing is to use double-sided sticky tape since you can't always be there to shoo them away when you're not around. Cat dislike the sensation of being stuck so they avoid areas that are unpleasant which they discover on their own without direct human intervention. Please keep in mind that cats are naturally inquisitive so they will make repeated attempts to investigate areas which once was perfectly fine but has suddenly change so it's useful to leave the tape there for a brief time until they no longer show interest in the countertops.

Well that is easy because I have three cats and after the first two the third went by like that.
What I do is that I take a squirt bottle and everytime the cat gets on my counter I squirt him. Say down when you do it though because there will be a time where your cat will come walking down your counter and you dont have time to get out that squirt bottle you say no. They know what that means after being told that in training.
Well good luck and hope it works for you! =)

Placing cookie sheets filled with water on the counter will give the cat a very unpleasant experience the next time she tries jumping up there.

A plastic Mouse Trap makes a loud noise to scare a cat from jumping up. Certain noises can be used as deterrents - the sound of a popping balloon, as an example. Blow up a balloon. While your cat is watching, pop it. If this is done several times, the cat will soon start to detest balloons, at which time you can place balloons along the edges of your counter. There may be other items your particular cat does not like because of the sound they make, e.g., cans of air used to clean computer keyboards. Placing several of these on the counter within visual range of the cat, may also persuade your cat to stop jumping up. There are several devices available commercially which may be helpful. Large plastic devices which look like mousetraps can be placed on the counter, and when the cat jumps on them, the paddle will slap making a loud, scary noise.

in many of the pet catalogs they have these special type of electric pads that you place on the counter and it give a very tiny shock tot heir paws..it scares them more than anything...try that...

also get yourself a good squirt gun..and when the cat gets up..squirt it with the water gun..it also scares the cat a lot...
and after a while..( it takes parents on your part) it will learn and stop.
my cat I say NO..get down..and it does...when I say no..it stops doing what it is doing an walks out of the room....
it knows that when I say the word NO..it is about to get squirted and it knows it must be doing something do not want it to do..and it stops..
really he does...

good luck

I make boobie traps. During hours I can watch the counter, I yell NO! But when we are sleeping, I put packing tape upside down on the counter, two sided tape will work as well, cats don't like the sticky feeling, they don't like getting attacked by the tape. It works fabulously! They wont jump up there anymore, not knowing if the tape will be up there. Good luck.

a bottle of water or a water gun works the best. After a few squirts each time the cat tries to jump up, they get the message!

spray it with a mist everytime you catch
your cat on top of the counters. Seriously,
they hate the stuff, Also blurt out a firm NO,
whenever you catch on the counter.
Eventually it will learn that what he/she
is doing is unacceptable. Good luck

Buy a water gun and when your cat gets on the counter squirt her! It doesn't hurt them it startles them and by the 2nd or 3rd time the cat won't do it! I used it on my cat and it worked.

Get a spray bottle, fill it with water. Whenever the cat gets up there or any other place you don't want it, spray the cat. You don't have to douse it. The mist alone will annoy it. It'll soon learn.

A water gun helps with mine. Everytime he's doing something he's not supposed to we squirt him and he scrambles away from what he was doing. Eventually he learns that he isn't supposed to do that and quits.
