I had this stray cat come by everyday, but when I went to let my dog out, the cat got in my house. It does not let me pet it, so I cannot pick it up to place it back outside. It does not want to go back out, instead it is hiding in my basement. What can I do to make her or him go back outside.

Put a humane trap in your basement with food inside. Then check it two times a day until the cat gets trapped inside it.

You should not leave it outside once you catch it. Give it to a no-kill shelter, or try to find a home for it, if you can't just take it to your nearest vet. It might be hurt, and cats should not be left in the wild to fend for themselves! Do the right thing, don't just "get rid of your problem".

I realize that noone likes the idea of euthanizing animals, but be aware that most no-kill shelters are filled to capacity and will not be able to take just any animal brought to them. They will accept the adoptable pets (those who are healthy and have no behavior issues) and no others, and even then there will be a waiting list usually. If you can not touch him some no-kills will not take him.

Call open-admission shelters for help, too. He has a better chance at a shelter than on the streets. Even if he is euthanized that is a more humane, pain-free death than being hit by a car, freezing to death, being mauled by a dog, dying of disease, etc.

You need to get a humane trap and put a can of tuna inside like the other poster said. This would be the best way so you can either take it back outside or take it to a no kill shelter. I wish you luck in getting him back out.

This cat desperately wants a home! Call an animal rescue group many will volunteer to get the cat for you , call one that is no-kill only. The humane society puts animals to sleep all the time so please don't have them come and get it for you. Just type in no kill animal shelters for your state and there will be quite a few on there.

Rent a live animal trap. Use tuna or can food to trap it. Then take it out side and release it. He will run right out.

Or leave the door open with the lights off. He should run out.
