what, APART from wood based cat litter(that we currently use) can i use to cover the floor in my parrot cage, the cat litter tends to give off a woody smell..obviously!!!and its a tad bit off putting , sand paper is no good coz they just munch it up, does anyone use anything different that they find works for them other than what iv listed...The cage is HUGE (for a macaw..tho we dont house macaws in the cage, just 2 cockateils and a canary) thanx peeps xx

i found a wood duckling on the road tonight. I almost ran him over. I stopped, got out and picked him up and brang him back home. I have since then broke up bread and made is a bit soggy... put him in some water for a SHORT period till he tried getting out, I took him out. He has a warm box to sleep in. He is VERY VERY small. But he has small feathers on his tail, with some down still. How old is he? I am guessing a few weeks. Does he need a heat source? How to I look after him, as I want to raise him.

I breed cockateils and lovebirds as a hobby and sell them to a local pet store. they r handfed, The owner, has not been able to sell the lovebirds as much as the cockateils, and I dont know why. They r really cute, he says people r scared of thier big beaks.

Hi,
My budgie is about 3 months old and she has a hole near the bottom of her beak. What could this be?

She doesn't use her cuttlebone very much, could that be a reason for the hole? Or is the beak overgrown?

She is playful and eating/drinking fine. Nothing else seems to be wrong with her... I touched it and she didn't jerk or seem to be in any pain.

Any advice would be very helpful. Thank you.

Was sad to discover today that Alex the African Grey Parrot has died.

Because of him and the research of Dr. Irene Pepperberg, many things have been uncovered about the intelligence of these beautiful animals and how much we have underestimated them. I always enjoyed reading their research as well as the playful and cheeky antics of Alex.

Here's the notice on their website:
"We are deeply saddened to announce Alex died this morning of unknown causes. We will have a formal press release on Monday when we know the cause of death.

He was absolutely fine yesterday and he was found dead this morning.

Dr. Pepperberg will take the weekend to mourn his death.

We hope to have more information on Monday

We miss him so much.

Thank you,

Arlene Levin-Rowe - Pepperberg Lab Manager
and the Pepperberg Lab Staff"

Many people are going to miss you, Alex! Fly free.

my 11 month old male parrotlet has lost his vibrant color of the last couple weeks. I understand he is stsarting to molt, he has a BUNCH of pin feathers sticking out of his head and neck, and there are grey with a little tad of green feathers on his pull out tray. Is there is anything else i could do for him, and should do anything about his pinfeathers on his head? Also the breeder i got him at said not to add anything else to his diet unless i wanna give him a apple slice, and to remove it after 15 mins. He also said he didn't need a cuttlebone..... is this true.....

Okay, so i got a lovebird about 2 weeks ago and it was becoming very mean and aggressive, it wouldn't let me go anywhere near the cage, and i started to feel bad for it cause i thought that maybe it was lonely... so, like 2 days ago i got another one, and although they seem to like each other, they both seem to hate me... they get so scared every time i try to put my hand near them... i wanted the birds in the first place so that i could bond with them and it just makes me sad to think that they will hate me... Is there ANY way them changing? They are still babies. One is 8 weeks and the other 15... and I've only had the oldest one for 2 and a half weeks and the younger one for like 3 days... I'm just so disappointed that I'm thinking of just giving them away and getting something much friendlier... any ideas???

Has anyone seen anything like this or knows what might have caused it? Sorry about the pictures, he was trying hard to hide in the plants.

I was walking in my cow pasture, and found a BIG brown baby bird on the ground, I think it might be a baby hawk, but I couldent find and nests around so I left it. After I had fed all the bulls, cows and calfs, (wich took about an hour, dragging all the hay bales out to feed all 38 dairy cows) I went back to see if the birds mother had gotten her baby- and she haddednt. I put on three pairs of rubber gloves from the house, and put the bird in a cardboard box, and put the box in a dark place. I've just searched on google "Baby Hawks" And there was a picture that was baisicaly the same as my baby bird, I think it's hungry too... What should I do!!

I have just bought a large aviary and we are planning on breeding budgies in it. Is it ok to house a couple of quails in the same aviary? Or, does anyone another species of bird which would be able to live with budgies?

How long do Cockateils live. Mine died today at the age of 8. Their were no signs of a fight from the other two birds. So it must have been natural causes.
